I’m wondering how the Photo Image Stabilization was tested for this camera. I’m surprised that this camera would rate higher than the Canon EOS R6 Mark II which has in-body image stabilization, while this one doesn’t. To me that suggests there may have been some inconsistencies in testing between the two cameras.

Since this body doesn’t have in-body image stabilization, it must have been relying on the lens’ image stabilization but I can’t find anywhere what lens was used for that test. In general, I think it’d be a good idea to specify for all interchangeable lens cameras what lens was used for the tests. I’m surprised this is not stated anywhere, or maybe I just missed.

Anyway, love the site. Thank you for all your work! It is appreciated.

It is weather sealed, check the Canon’s web. Not to the same extent as more expensive models but it has weather sealing and should withstand light rain with weather sealed lens.

Hey there Adps_cz! Thank you for your feedback! Although Canon might be advertising this camera as being “weather resistant” it is not properly weather sealed; the battery door is lacking any type of rubber gasket or foam to block out moisture. In comparison, the R6 MII is properly weather sealed, including foam gaskets around the battery door. Taking this camera out in the rain is risky, as any type of moisture built up in the battery/SD card compartment. For this reason, we do not consider the R8 weather sealed. You can also see from this reviewer (https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-R8.aspx) that the camera is lacking the level of weather sealing compared to other cameras, even within this price bracket. We do suggest bringing a camera cover when using the R8 in the rain to ensure your investment is properly protected. Please let us know if this has helped clear things up. We really appreciate your feedback!

  6. Update: We’ve converted this review to Test Bench 0.13. We’ve added new tests for Video Dynamic Range and Luminosity Patch Detection. You can learn more about these updates in the changelog.
