Hi,
I was wondering for how long is each frequency played when doing frequency sweeps for the noise isolation tests?
I noticed with the AKG N700NC M2 that it takes about 15-20 seconds for them to “hone” in on the dominant external noise in the surrounding environment and I suspect other adaptive noise canceling systems would perform similarly. For example, putting them on standing in front of the washer/dryer room and they cut out a good bit of the dryer noise but if I then stand there for a 20 seconds more and suddenly the remaining dryer noise almost completely melts away. I would guess that your testing regimen may have a harder time gauging performance in this regard if the frequency sweep is played fairly fast. In real life experience, I find these do a great job blocking out the noise of a rumbling commuter rail car but don’t perform as well with the changing traffic/car noise of a street that you’re walking down (but still pretty good).
cheers,
–tom
