Update: Made minor edits and checked that the text is up to date.
Would you please make a prominent note that on QC45 it’s impossible to completely disable ANC. See this thread for example.
I appreciate its usefulness in the airplane or such, but it gets very tiring the whole day at the office. If I knew this beforehand, I would never buy this model.
Update: We’ve added clarification in the intro, in the Commute/Travel verdict regarding ANC, and in Noise Isolation>, as this feature can’t be turned off.

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out. The review already mentions that ANC can’t be turned off in the Controls and Noise Isolation tests, but we’ve added an additional mention of no ANC off mode into the review’s introduction and in the Commute/Travel verdict.
Update: We’ve converted this review to Test Bench 1.6, which updates how we measure latency. We’ve updated and renamed the following test groups: Wired Connection, Bluetooth Connection, and Wireless Connection (Dongle). We’ve also added new codec latency measurements and provided an audio sample of recorded latency.
After recently purchasing the Bose QC45 based on your in depth review I found that the connector on the headphones is 1/16" TRS not the listed 1/8" TRS. Unfortunately it is not compatible with a boom mic I have and an adapter is needed. Perhaps I misunderstood what is meant by connector.
In all I absolutely love the site and can not recommend it enough. Your team is awesome!!

Hi there,
Thanks for writing in! We appreciate your kind words! For the connector, I can understand how it can be misleading, especially since their audio cable has two differently-sized connectors. The ‘Connector’ result reflects the plug that connects the headphones to your device, like a smartphone, amp, or laptop. That would be the 1/8" connector, which fits standard AUX ports.
I hope that clarifies things. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask. 🙂
where are the breathability results for these headphones?
Just wanted to say I’ve been using these headphones and had been heavily suffering from their badly implemented multi-device connectivity. They always glitch, and it’s almost impossible for me to use them without disconnecting them from all but the one device I am trying to use. The internet is full of people complaining about this (see reddit), but since I usually trust your reviews I found out about it only in hindsight.
Please incorporate to your review this very important fact. I would strongly advise against buying these headphones for this single reason.

Adding to my own comment that while ranting and looking for references, it seems this week Bose released an update that allows disabling multi-point. It took them two years, but this makes the headphones usable (though it’s annoying they never got multi-point to work correctly).

Hi nadavge, Thank you for reaching out 🙂. We already looked at this issue on February 21, 2022, and could not replicate it. However, we did mention it in our review under “Bluetooth Connection” because so many users encountered it. We will take another look at the headphones and highlight this better in our review.
Cheers, Dagobiet
Update: We’ve converted this review to Test Bench 1.7, which updates our Noise Isolation test. We’ve also expanded the scope of this test to include Common Scenarios in addition to Voice Handling and Wind Handling.
Bose QuietComfort 45 got firmware update (released 21 March 2024, Version 4.0.4) with Personal Modes, noise cancellation level control, wind noise reduce option, multi-point connection option, shortcut and more. Do you plan to test this and compare to QuietComfort 2023?

Hi Hamil950,
We will retest the Bose QuietComfort 45 on their latest firmware. We also plan to bring the Bose QuietComfort 2023 to the latest TB 1.7. At the moment, we are limited in our resources, but we will try to update the headphones review as soon as we can.
Cheers, Dagobiet

You could also retest imaging, phase mismatch, L/R drivers matching, Mid Accuracy etc. for QC45, please. You retested QC2023 model after you discovered an issue with your ‘job’s coding and interpretation of results from REW’ so I’m not sure if results for QC45 are correct.
Update: In response to user feedback and the addition of a wind reduction mode, we retested the headphones for Noise Isolation - Full Range, Noise Isolation - Common Scenarios, Noise Isolation - Voice Handling, and ANC Wind Handling re-running the tests before and after the firmware 4.0.4 update. The demos, graphs, and relevant text have been revised to reflect the results.
