The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a high-end hybrid mattress. It uses organic materials, including latex for its comfort layer, a quilted wool layer, and a cotton cover. It has a 'Firm' feel, with a slightly firmer feel in the lumbar area because of the zoned latex layer.
Our Verdict
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is best-suited for heavier side sleepers, who will compress it enough for comfortable side sleeping. Despite its 'Firm' feel, it also offers good body conformity for average people. As a result, it's soft enough to relieve pressure on your arm and shoulder while still being supportive. Its highly contouring upper comfort layer also helps relieve pressure on your arm and lighter areas, such as your knees. Still, it's not suitable for lighter side sleepers, whose shoulders won't sink in far enough, which will cause uncomfortable pressure.
Good body conformity for average people.
Excellent body conformity for heavier people.
Highly contouring comfort layer helps with pressure relief.
Disappointing body conformity for lighter people.
Disappointing body conformity for lighter people.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is well-suited for back sleeping, particularly for individuals in the light to average weight categories. It offers great support for lighter people and good support for average people, so your hips will stay aligned with the rest of your body. While it's not quite as supportive for heavier people, it still does a decent job of keeping your spine aligned. Its contouring upper comfort layer helps relieve pressure around your hips. However, lighter people may want a plusher mattress for better pressure relief.
Highly contouring comfort layer helps with pressure relief.
Great support for lighter people.
Good support for average people.
Decently supportive for heavier people.
Disappointing body conformity for lighter people.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a very good option for lighter and average stomach sleepers. If you're in the lighter or average weight category, it'll properly support your hips and keep your spine aligned. Support isn't as good for heavier people, and your hips will tend to sink farther into it than your shoulders. While it's still decently supportive, it's not ideal for stomach sleeping, where support is very important for spinal alignment. This mattress also offers decent pressure relief performance, with a highly contouring feel that helps relieve pressure on your hips and knees. Lighter people may want a mattress with better pressure relief, but it's less of an issue for stomach sleepers.
Great support for lighter people.
Good support for average people.
Heavier people may need more support for stomach sleeping.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a durable mattress. Its only foam layer is the upper comfort layer of dense, high-quality latex. This layer is likely to resist showing signs of wear, like permanent indentations, for much longer compared to lower-quality foams.
Uses high-quality, durable latex.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid offers the best pressure relief for average and heavier people. This 'Firm' mattress offers good body conformity for people in the average weight category and excellent body conformity for heavier people, so if you're a side sleeper, your shoulder will sink in enough to relieve pressure. However, lighter people won't compress the mattress enough for comfortable side sleeping. That said, its upper layers are quite enveloping. The lighter parts of your body won't sink into its latex upper comfort layer very much, but it's very contouring, which creates a slightly hugging feel and helps relieve pressure on lighter areas like your knees.
Good body conformity for average people.
Excellent body conformity for heavier people.
Highly contouring comfort layer helps with pressure relief.
Disappointing body conformity for lighter people.
Disappointing body conformity for lighter people.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is most supportive for lighter and average people. If you're in the lighter weight category, you can sleep on your back or stomach, and your hips will stay aligned with the rest of your body. Your hips will sink a little more if you're in the average weight category, but you'll still be well-supported, so it's suitable for back or stomach sleeping. While it doesn't quite offer good support for heavier individuals, it still performs decently. However, heavier stomach sleepers, who need extra support to keep the spine aligned, may require a more supportive mattress.
Great support for lighter people.
Good support for average people.
Decently supportive for heavier people.
Heavier people may need more support for stomach sleeping.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress has great cooling. It feels quite cool as you're falling asleep, and it does an even better job as the night goes on. It's a good choice for hot sleepers, especially if you often wake up in the middle of the night feeling overheated.
Excellent cooling.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has very good motion dissipation. It isolates movement well, so if your partner rolls over, you won't feel much movement around your head or feet. It's not quite as good at dissipating motion, and you'll feel bigger movements for a few moments. Still, movements aren't likely to wake you up unless you're a light sleeper.
Very good motion dissipation.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress has fantastic responsiveness. This mattress's latex upper comfort layer has a springy feel, and recovers its shape very quickly after being compressed. This, combined with the mattress's highly bouncy feel, helps make it feel easier to change sleeping positions.
Superb responsiveness, so you don't feel stuck in place.

Popular Mattress Comparisons
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a firm mattress with a bouncy feel. Its latex upper comfort layer molds around your body without enveloping you or restricting movement. It offers excellent cooling, making it an even better choice for hot sleepers than the Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic, which is an all-foam latex mattress. However, it doesn't stand out for its motion dissipation, which is good but not great. The Puffy Lux is a hybrid mattress with a medium firmness level and better motion dissipation. It's a bit less bouncy, and you sink more into it.
If you'd like more options to consider, see our picks for the best firm mattresses or the overall best mattresses.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is better than the Novaform Legacy for most people. The Saatva is more cooling and has significantly better edge support, so it's more comfortable to sleep near the side of the mattress. It also contains more durable foam. That said, the Novaform has a better motion dissipation performance, so it's worth considering if you're a light sleeper.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has a better performance than the WinkBeds The WinkBed. Both are firm mattresses, but the Saatva offers better support regardless of your weight, and is a better option for back/stomach sleeping overall. It's more cooling, making it suitable for hot sleepers, and it has better edge support, which makes it easier to get in and out of bed. It's also more responsive, so it adapts faster to your movements. The Saatva is bouncier, which also helps make it easier to move around in your sleep.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a better mattress than the Nectar Classic Hybrid. It offers significantly better edge support than the Nectar, which extends the comfortable sleeping surface and makes it easier to get in and out of bed. Additionally, it's more responsive, allowing for easier movement around or changes in sleeping positions. The Saatva is also more cooling. It transfers enough heat to keep even hot sleepers cool. That said, the Nectar offers better motion dissipation, so if you sleep with a partner who tosses and turns, you may still prefer it.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is better than the Puffy Royal for most people. The Saatva's better cooling performance makes it more suitable for hot sleepers. Its significantly better edge support gives you more space to sleep comfortably and makes it easier to get in and out of bed. It's more responsive and much bouncier, which helps make it feel easy to change sleeping positions. The Saatva also uses much higher-quality foams that will last longer without sagging.
We've recently started testing mattresses. We use objective data and repeatable testing for key characteristics like firmness, cooling, and motion isolation, to ensure each mattress gets the same treatment. Since we buy all of our mattresses, we can tear them down layer by layer and isolate the mechanical properties of every component: quilted tops, foams, coils, and any special materials. Our approach gives us unprecedented insight into how each product design decision contributes to a mattress's overall performance and feel, and allows us to tailor our results to different body types and sleeping positions.
Test Results
It's a firm mattress best suited for average and heavier side sleepers, as well as lighter and average back and stomach sleepers. It's an okay choice for heavier back sleepers as well, but its support performance falls a little short for heavier stomach sleepers. Lighter side sleepers will want a plusher mattress for better pressure relief.
This 'Firm' mattress's upper layers are a plush wool cover and a 3" latex upper comfort layer that is quite soft compared with the comfort layers of some firm mattresses, like the Winkbeds The Winkbed. This helps it offer good body conformity for people in the average weight category whose shoulders will sink into the mattress enough to provide pressure relief. It has an excellent performance for heavier individuals, who will compress it more, which helps relieve pressure on the shoulder and keep the body in a straight line. However, people in the lighter weight category won't compress the mattress enough, making side sleeping uncomfortable.
This mattress provides excellent support for lighter individuals and adequate support for those in the average weight category. Your hips and lower back will be aligned when sleeping on your back or stomach. If you're in the heavier weight category, your hips will sink in further relative to the rest of you, which isn't ideal, especially for back and stomach sleepers. Still, it offers decent support, making it much more suitable for back/stomach sleepers in that weight category than plusher mattresses like the Saatva Classic.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid uses pocket coils for its support layer and latex for its upper comfort layer, which creates a highly bouncy, lively feel. This makes it feel easier to change sleeping positions.
The upper layers feel quite enveloping. You'll only sink a little into the wool cover and soft latex upper comfort layer. However, it's highly contouring. The mattress's upper layers contour around you closely, so you feel hugged but not enveloped or like you're 'in' it.
It has superb responsiveness. Its upper comfort layers are made of wool and latex, and it recovers instantly after being compressed, so you never feel stuck in place.
It has very good motion isolation. It does a good job of isolating motion, so you don't feel a lot of movement around your head or feet when your partner rolls over. However, compared with the Saatva Classic, which has a similar motion isolation performance overall, motion dissipates more slowly. After bigger movements, you may feel like you're bouncing around for a moment. To avoid that, you may want a mattress that dissipates motion faster, such as the Novaform Legacy.
It has fantastic edge support. The sides are reinforced with firmer pocket coils and don't compress very much, even when a lot of pressure is applied. They do form a slight ramp outward when you sit on the edge, but it's still easy to get in and out of bed, and you won't feel pushed off the bed when sleeping on the edge.
It has excellent cooling, especially as the night goes on. When you first go to bed, it feels just as cool as mattresses like the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate, which has a worse cooling performance overall. However, it does a better job of dissipating heat during the second half, so it's a particularly good option for people who often wake up overheated late at night.
The edges are reinforced with firmer (13-gauge) pocket coils, while the support layer coils (left) are softer 14-gauge coils. This helps give the mattress its fantastic edge support.
This mattress contains just one layer of latex foam. This type of foam feels responsive and bouncy while providing a good balance of pressure relief and support.
This mattress's upper comfort layer is made of dense, high-quality latex. You can expect that layer to resist forming permanent indentations or body impressions for longer compared to lower-quality foams.
The wool quilted top is just 1.3" (3.3 cm) thick, so it provides a bit of cushioning, but you'll compress it and feel the latex comfort foam below. The latex layer is thick at 3" (7.5 cm) and helps relieve pressure and support the parts of your body that don't sink into the support layer.
The support contains 14-gauge pocket coils. This type of coil is individually wrapped, providing better motion isolation and contouring than other types. The mattress's marketing suggests different springs at the head/foot of the mattress, but in fact, the support springs are all the same gauge and look identical, aside from the edge support coils. There is a slight difference in spring firmness between the heat/foot and lumbar area of the mattress. Here's a comparison of the lumbar springs (left) and head/foot springs (right).
We couldn't test the quilted top because it's made of wool fill and not foam, but it's soft. You'll likely fully compress the wool layer and feel the firmer latex below. The latex layer is slightly firmer in the lumbar area because it has smaller holes in that area, which results in a firmer feel compared with the head/foot sections. Together with the firmer springs, this layer produces a firm mattress overall.
The support springs are the firmest part of the mattress and help provide support for the heavier parts of your body, like the lumbar or hips, depending on your sleeping position. There's a slight firmness difference between the springs at the head/feet and lumbar, which is meant to provide additional support in the lumbar area, but it's not very noticeable. Together with the softer foam layer, the springs give this mattress a firm feeling overall.
The latex upper comfort layer is quite resilient, or bouncy, which is expected from latex. This gives the mattress a lively, responsive feel that makes it easy to shift sleeping positions throughout the night, and combined with the spring layer below, gives the mattress its high bounciness. The entire layer is made of the same slab of foam, but it has differently sized holes in different areas. The smaller holes in the lumbar area result in a bouncier feel in that area, so you may notice more 'push back' and support around your hips.
This mattress's springs aren't as bouncy as some other hybrid mattresses, like the Saatva Classic. However, its 3" (7.5 cm) layer of latex is quite bouncy, so overall, it's still a highly bouncy mattress.
