Samsungs are crap and their ghosting/Game Mode PQ issues are awful
I heard that they fixed game mode PQ via update! But ghosting is still there. They will fix it, and they have better LCD than sony by a long shot, even this site says this .
Yeah if it’s HDR brightness you’re after, then either the Q90 or the X900. The Q90 is on sale for $1700 ($100 off), and the X900 is $1000. Are you also looking for lowest possible input lag? The Q90 has lower lag in game mode, but likely at the cost of local dimming. You can turn local dimming on high again while in GM, but I don’t know how much that adds into input lag. This video compares the q80 and the x950, go to 9:51: https://youtu.be/2DaZE_VGytQ. Neither are the same models we’re discussing, but the algorithms are likely similar.
Yeah i will most likely get the Q90T QLED this time. I don’t want another OLED. Besides i can use my current OLED for movies only.. so i will have QLED for gaming and OLED for movies!! I want very high peak brightness with great black levels!! And QLED does this i believe!! Samsung have the best 4k LCDs in the markets too!! And i want a tv for years to use too i don’t wanna upgrade my tv every 2 years so QLED is the better choice..
I’ve been looking for a 85" TV that is going to future proof me for next gen gaming and that is going to look awesome. OLED for me isn’t an option so I was looking at the Q80T, 2020 Vizio PQX, and X900H. Vizio could end up being the best of the three but there is no word at all of the sets. I am all but 99% sold im getting the X900H in probably 2 weeks. Everything I have seen from those that bought theirs early has been great and you can’t beat the price.
I decided not to go for sony, because they are only 32 dimming zones when a q90t is 120.. and they have android system which i hate so much!! Either a Q90T or CX OLED. I want a high end tv
Right the X950H doesn’t have HDMI 2.1, but the review for it should give an idea of how local dimming will score with the X900H.
To me, the CX is the better value, despite HDR not getting as bright and burn-in risk. There is another thread about the Q90 and game mode, since in the past local dimming has generally been greatly reduced to achieve low input lag. Apparently you can change local dimming in game mode, but don’t know what how much that increases input lag.
Tbh I would just go in a store that has them both on display and see what you like. Most Best Buys in the US do it by appointment right now.
The point is, i currently have an LG C8 OLED. And the tv is not that bright in hdr and on rtings it says the c8 is brighter than CX, and there is a burn in risk with pixels degrading overtime. And the ABL is annoying in my opinion when you are located in a very bright location in a video game. I don’t know what to choose from the CX or Q90T! The CX isn’t really an upgrade over the C8. And even less bright! My only problem right now is the c8 doesn’t have hdmi 2.1 this is why i wanna upgrade.. but i’m sure i will most likely end up with the 4k flagship qled this year!! Because 2000 nits of peak brightness is crazy, and no burn in risk and the new local dimming algorithm by samsung this year makes blooming way less than the Q90R from last year!! I don’t know i guess i’m yet not sure about what to go for. I will most likely wait a little bit and ask here and there and will pull the trigger later. i love my C8 OLED but the ABL is ruining it for me.. especially in a very bright scene in a video game!
Will you use it for other than gaming? What size are you looking to get?
I think the Q90T is a bit over priced; both that and the CX are $1800 and the x900h will be $1000, all being the 55"models.
The q90t can get brighter HDR and won’t have burn-in risk compared to the CX, but obviously you lose out on perfect contrast and uniformity.
I really like Sony’s TVs and I’m curious how they score local dimming this year (should get a pretty good idea when the x950 review goes live). I expect it will have more blooming compared to Samsung, but fewer fluctuations in zones and better shadow detail. It will also be significantly cheaper.
Gaming only!!! Ps4 pro and ps5!!! 55 inch is what i want too. I want a tv with hdmi 2.1 too the x950 doesn’t have, the x900h does but it is only 32 dimming zones..
Game mode does somewhat affect the local dimming as blooming is significantly more present but the brightness is not affected. It will still get extremely bright in game mode but the local dimming just won’t be as effective.
Also I notice there may be a glitch with the TV’s high local dimming setting as the TV will reduce brightness randomly after a certain point and can get pretty distracting and frustrating. The only way to fix this is to either switch local dimming from high to low, and then back to high, or switch back to sdr and then back to hdr.
I notice the Q80R is a fair bit brighter than the Q80T. I wonder if banding would become more noticeable with a brighter TV. Also, why do you think Samsung suddenly went to 8 bit TV, with dithering, for their top line TV’s. To what end?
They did this because they are very close to release a quantum dot oled..
Again, more misinformation here. A 10-bit panel is not required for HDR. If you believe that, and if this set is indeed 8-bit, then how do you think rtings tested the HDR performance of this TV if it’s not possible to show HDR on an 8-bit panel <scratches my head>. It’s hard to know if people are just uninformed or deliberately spreading misinformation, hopefully not the latter.
There’s nothing “premium” about a 10-bit panel if it’s nearly indiscernible from an 8-bit panel under any test that you may conceive. Both the Q80R and Q80T scored the same on the gradient test.
Then why does the uhd premium certification says 10 bit panels minimum and never mentioned 8bit+frc??? Stop it dude you are clearly a samsung fan!! But i have made up my mind. Samsung have to pay me to pay for QLED. Not when OLED is around!! Have a nice day.
So why did they bother to make 10 bit panels in the first place? And if nobody can tell the difference, then I guess all companies will drop 10 bit panels for 8 bit +FCR going forward. If 10 bit panels are more expensive to make, then no sane company would ever make a 10 bit panel again. Right?
8 bit and frc is still 8 bit!! Frc is just dithering program for gradient and banding inprovement!! The ultra hd premium certification requirements require 10 bit panels!! Every hdr tv should have an ultra hd premium logo on the box!!
I wish Rtings would expand upon this. Paying premium price for budget parts doesn’t sit right. Even the entry level qled a couple years ago had native bit 10 panel.
Yeap, if i want QLED i would go 2018 or 2019!! At least they have native 10bit, nice try samsung but no. You’re not fooling me.
So I guess all TV manufacturers will now switch to 8 bit FRC since there is no downside to it, and it’s equal to a native 10bit.
Nope, not equal at all, you need 10 bit native for best hdr support, 8bit and frc won’t give another 2 bits, its still an 8 bit panel!! FRC is just dithering program to make a little bit better banding than 8 bit panel, but won’t be comparable as real 10 bit!! I am going lg cx oled. I won’t pay for 8 bit panels because i had 8 bit and was stuck with it for years!!! And it sucks compared to 10 bit!! Just made some research and finally understand what is this about!! Real 10 bit is 100% worth it. Samsung actually cheaped their TVs for people to be forced to purchase their 8k lineup which is they pushing it now!! And no one will use frc! Only samsung did this. And they will end up making lcd for quantum dot oled in the coming years!!
No, both the Xbox Series X and the PS5 will use HDMI VRR according to Microsoft and Sony respectively. They might both support FreeSync too, but over time I expect the proprietary FreeSync over HDMI “standard” to be phased out in TVs and replaced with the HDMI VRR standard. For computers it’s likely to stay around, especially the Displayport version that is now just the VESA Adaptive Sync standard.
LG CX OLED supports AMD freesync and HDMI VRR!! This set is 100% full future proof.
The most visible parts of HDR are the greater color gamut and the greater range of brightness. 10-bit only factors in because banding is more likely with this greater range of brightness if you can only spread it over 8 bits. If you don’t see banding, then there is no additional advantage to having 10 bits. Rtings review already shows this set has a ~90% dci-p3 color gamut and peak brightness of over 700 nits in their HDR scene. So, it’s more than capable of HDR.
No way i am buying q80t! Either cx oled or q90t, but my decision is 70% lg cx oled!! I’m still not convinced with samsung’s work this year..
Why would Samsung do such a thing? It is because South Korea is now going through what America went through with Japan, and then Japan went through with South Korea, and now South Korea is going through with China? Each countries electronic industry was decimated by an up and coming cheaper labour, market. Would Samsung be trying to stay prosperous with cheaper tricks like this? If Samsung is cheapening out on their panels, I would hope RTINGS would warn its viewers.
They did cheap their tvs, and they destroyed their picture quality for a wider viewing angles, and rtings won’t mention this because i guess samsung is probably going to sue them for making the people not paying for a qled rv in 2020!!!. All samsung 2020 QLEDS are 8bit plus frc ! And should be avoided completely, 2020 lineup just defeated 2017 lineup to be the worst ever. Samsung ks8000 and Q9FN were the best samsungs TVs..
I think the best way to compare us like upscaling. A good implementation can looks good, but it’ll never be as good as the real deal and you can always end up with subpar upscaling.
So if i go for Q90T should i be worried?? Either this or the CX!!
Most people on the PC space would say it doesn’t really matter unless you’re a professional editor, but technically an 8bit panel with frc fakes colors by quickly switching between two color to artificially support the “1 billion colors” a 10bit panel actually supports natively.
Wait so 10 bit panel is better than 8bit frc?? I knew it.
Guys may i ask about the QLED 2020 lineup too?? I heard they are 8 bit using FRC, what is actually the difference between 8bit and frc vs 10bit?? And which is better, please someone explain to me..
No you’re correct LG completely cheaped out on panels black and grey are not uniformed. No dts, cheaper panels as told by LG techs that come out to the house, oh and reduced bandwidth with increased input lag. Essentially all their 2020 models are garbage.
You must be fuming right now because you do not have the latest model!! Stop justifying your tv.. the CX is better.
If you are a gamer C9 will not support freesync while the CX will. Depending on the tv VRR has a minimum frame rate it can support on the CX it is listed at 40hz on 4K per rtings. Freesync allows for low frame rate compensation which will allow freesync to work at lower frame rates while VRR may not work. I would need someone to confirm this. Games like Assassins Creed on the next gen consoles is guaranteed at 30fps, while freesync will work with this, I am not sure if VRR will.
Only other major differences seems to be the updated processor. The C9 hdmi support 48gb speeds which will allow it to handle 12 bit, while the CX tops out at 10 bit. I believe the TVs max out at 10 bits regardless making the 12 bit option unnecessary.
I’m buying a tv for gaming 70% usage and 30% movies!! So yes i am a gamer that plays alot per day for long hours!! I currently have a C8 OLED and i wanna upgrade for hdmi 2.1 tv!! So the Cx is worth it you say? So i should purchase a CX???
Those are actually the next two TVs on our list, starting with the CX early next week.
The 40GB limitation on the CX is a non-issue; in the real world this makes almost no difference whatsoever.
Thank you adam, cannot wait for the CX OLED review!!!
I heard that they fixed game mode PQ via update! But ghosting is still there. They will fix it, and they have better LCD than sony by a long shot, even this site says this .

Use web translator.. and scroll down to brightness and local dimming zones. Only 32 confirmed..
32 dimming zones only,, samsung have significantly better LCD TVs this year!! The Q90T is a monster..
Yeah i will most likely get the Q90T QLED this time. I don’t want another OLED. Besides i can use my current OLED for movies only.. so i will have QLED for gaming and OLED for movies!! This would fix the problem completely?
So blooming becomes much more visible?? And does blacks appear grey? Please i wanna know.
Can you confirm if this tv game mode affect the picture or not??
It is a downgrade before even seeing the review!!
Color depth should be 10 bit!! How do you know this set is 10 bit?? I think it’ not.
Yes, QDOLED is coming.
They did this because they are very close to release a quantum dot oled..
All samsung 2020 are downgraded, and yes brightness reveals more banding!!! You ain’t wrong.

Do not worry, i’m sure vincent will mention this if he didn’t already.
Yeap, if i want QLED i would go 2018 or 2019!! At least they have native 10bit, nice try samsung but no. You’re not fooling me.
10bit panel is needed the most for hdr!! 8bit plus frc is still an 8 bit.
I am not interested in its review anymore to be honest.. 8 bit panel is a no go for me. I will purchase the CX OLED..
Nope, not equal at all, you need 10 bit native for best hdr support, 8bit and frc won’t give another 2 bits, its still an 8 bit panel!! This is 100% legit!! I even saw this on samsung’s website forums too.
They have 8bit and frc this year on all 4k lineup..
So if i go for Q90T should i be worried?? Either this or the CX!!

Noo.. all 4k qled lineup in 2020 are all 8 bit panels plus frc
Wait so 10 bit panel is better than 8bit frc?? I knew it.
No even the Q95 AND Q90 are both 8 bit panel too.
All 4k lineup are 8 bit+FRC..
I heard that all QLED lineup this year is 8bit plus frc. Does this really matter??

I think i’m going to buy the LG CX OLED. Thanks guys!! I want it for PS5!!
You must be fuming right now because you do not have the latest model!! Stop justifying your tv.. the CX is better.
No, the C9 won’t be updated at all!! The C9 won’t be getting freesync i believe. Edit: which is why i believe the CX is better choice..
