I will never buy another Samsung Soundbar again!!!! The SmartThings app will NOT recognize my 990C since its major update last year. I talked to Samsung support for over an hour. Also I will never buy another soundbar that doesn’t have a native video UI. Never again!
What has been the brightest, most vivid, SDR and HDR settings for you all. I find that colors within the Creator preset are totally washed out. Standard and Sports look so much more accurate and vivid while keep dark blacks in SDR. Also it seems HDR True Black and Dolby Vision Game are the brightest and most accurate HDR settings. I wish there was a mode the allowed me to tweak color, gamma, and brightness all at once. Creator and all those Game presets are pointless
I know the 77 inch C4 will go on sale throughout the year but I’m wondering if the 77 inch G3 is a better deal at a similar price. Especially since it’s even brighter.
that make no sense…, why i need to save power when i connect to an external monitor. so which gpu will be used if i use the MUX switch to switch to dgpu and use usb-c port to connect a external monitor?
The dGPU would drive both connections similar to a normal desktop graphics cards.
Again that’s the beauty of a MUX switch. You can configure it to behave however you need for the GPUs
The 2 USB-C ports are connected to the iGPU by design to save power when hooked up to an external monitor.
But it’s all irrelevant because you can just open the Synapse software and flip the MUX switch to use the dedicated GPU only. Problem solved. That’s the beauty of a MUX switch
but with an additional note that sits in the test: “With any display, deep blacks are mainly noticeable if you’re in a dark room, but it’s even more important with this TV. Since it lacks a polarizing filter, blacks appear raised and the TV has a slight pink tint to it if there’s even a bit of light in your room. To enjoy this TV to the fullest, you really need to be in a perfectly dark room.”

Nah buddy. Blacks are OLED black even in a well lit environment. It may be best in a dark room but this TV is bright and OLED black in any environment. It’s the real deal!
One more thing…this thing is bright even in extremely lit rooms. Best Buy had it on the main floor and it was scorching in its vivid mode or whatever Samsung calls it brightest setting.
It has pretty cool color right out the box but my god is it gorgeous. I just checked a 55 inch version out at Best Buy! I’m very curious to see Sony’s QD-OLED with this Samsung panel but dang it’s beautiful!
you mean the king in terms of brightness.. But picture quality overall seems still to be better on Sony A90J, f.e. gradient (9.3-8.5)
Re-read my post again. I said the “best overall TV”…meaning in all aspects of a modern HDTV for today’s market.
But to be specific higher brightness, having all gaming standards and does it well, and great color accuracy definitely are more important attributes than better gradient handling…which it handles pretty well anyways.
Your point makes sense, but Rtings isn’t here to give a holistic review of the TV. There are tons of other reviewers for that. Rtings is an objective, scientifically-inclined source for measurements. It would be a mistake for Rtings to start providing that kind of information. Otherwise it would be like what happened to Reviewed.com, which went from an objective, measurements-based site to a subpar, subjective review site. Rtings needs to stay focused on its mission statement, and that means being focused on measurements.
What you just said is a complete oxymoron to my original post. What sense does it make to scientifically test features that are broken….or if they can’t attempt to test them at all. That should affect overall scoring. My Sony 900H purchase definitely taught me to pay attention to active features…not promised ones.
All of you asking for RTings to spend an extra $1,300 USD to also buy the 65 inch, then you should help them and support pay by signing up for early access with them, and email them letting them know you signed up to help them get the 65 inch. Would only take 29 people to sign up for 1 year to pay for it! :-) probably thousands will view this review, so it can be achieved. But just keep in mind like RTings said, most stuff would still be the same with the 65 inch.
Hey there,
Thanks for reaching out!
Unfortunately, we don’t have any current plans to test any other size variants of this particular model. Due to limited resources and the fact that we purchase all of our own products, we don’t typically test more than one size of any given TV. That said, if there ends up being a big enough interest in a review of the 65’‘ model, then we’ll definitely revisit this! I also think it’s worth mentioning that algorithms also play a significant role here. Yes, they have more zones, but the screen sizes are also larger. So, more zones doesn’t always translate to better performance. If I happen to come across anything specific though, I’ll be sure to let you know! :)
Why isn’t 65 inch models the size you buy by default? I’m just curious as it’s arguably the most popular TV size.
Can anyone comment on the VRR flicker on the C1? Still an “issue”? Issue in quotations because many don’t even notice it and seems to be highly dependent on the viewing environment and game performance. Thanks!
I game on a 77 inch CX with Xbox Series X and EVGA FTW3 3080. I have never seen this “flicker’. I’ve read about it but never experienced it. But my suspicion is this happens with GPUs that can’t quite sustain around 80-100 fps which seems to be VRR’s sweet spot. Just a theory though.
Hi jmterio, Both of these TVs performed very well in our testing, so I think that might depend on how you intend to use the TV. For instance, will you be gaming? or simply just watching tv/movies/sports? Another thing to consider is your viewing environment. (bright or dark room, seating arrangement, etc) Also, do you mind if I ask how you like the C1 so far? Looking forward to hearing from you! :)
Also CX input lag should be almost equal to the C1 with the latest firmware update. You really can’t lose with either TV. LG has done a phenomenal job updating their TVs and fixing identified bugs. In my opinion that’s their biggest advantage against Sony and Samsung at the moment.
UPDATE:
We have been getting a lot of questions about this so we will reach out to our contacts to confirm and update you all ASAP.
I hope they don’t feed you any BS. I’ve heard March is the time frame…which is when most folks return dates are up lol. I’m done with Sony TVs for a looooooong time
Best Buy is picking mine up next week. Sony definitely taught me a valuable lesson when making TV purchases. Not settling this time and grabbing a 77 inch CX instead.
Side note…the 2021 90J mentioned future VRR and ALLM updates as well at the 3;22 mark of their official youtube video. Funny thing is that sites such as The Verge mentioned the 2021 TVs were getting these features day one in their article LMAO!!!!!
It wasn’t part of our test methodology, but we’ve already started working on a new test bench update that will add game mode testing. We should have more details soon, but unfortunately, it won’t be ready until the new year.
Ok thanks guys. Game Modes, latency, resolution testing, etc… gotta be the most important tests right now for HDTVs. People that haven’t upgraded their TVs in years are making purchases right now just for their consoles and new HDMI 2.1 GPUs
Thanks for the question! Based on our current testing we think the Q80T is much better for overall gaming. However, we have seen many reports of issues in game mode which we currently don’t test for (but we are working on this for a future test bench update).
So in this case we recommended the X900H as a bit of a safer bet. The X900H score will also go up once they add VRR.
So why don’t you guys test in game mode? I don’t understand this.
Reading and watching the review for this television is like watching a prescription drug tv commercial. The drug works, but you have to deal with a bunch of unwanted side effects. Great picture quality, BUT; reddish tint, motion issues, HDMI 2.1 problems, up-scaling is still sub-par, and SmartCast leaves a lot to be desired. I don’t understand how this television received such a high rating in spite of all these issues!?!?
1.) Nvidia performance console will only display input latency of game engine/render queue, not the input latency of the TV. You need LDAT or a highspeed camera to measure TV input lag. But I agree that the 7ms measured by rtings at 120Hz are good (if we suppose they also apply to 4K)
2.) You will not be able to see tearing with 120Hz refresh rate. And yes if frame rate is high than it will feel smooth. VRR has an advantage in lower framerates. Without VRR 50fps will feel more like 45fps. Yes you will most likely not see a difference, but it is 10% more performance. Not saying it is my number 1 priority, but if a TV supports VRR it is worth about 100-150$ more to me. This is about the amount I would need for 10% more performance of my GPU.
Yep…definitely can’t wait for the next update. My only gripe is about 500 more nits lmao but I’ve got my settings dialed in for a nice balance. But seriously gaming at a high refresh rate looks and feels pretty dang good on a 900h
Thisn has nothing to do with 100% scaling. It seems that the actual resolution at 4K120 is just 3840x1080 and every second line gets created by upscaling. This makes no sense at all. If you are fine with less detailed and upscaled content you can play with 1080p as well.
HDTVTest will publish a statement from Sony soon about the 4K120 bluring.
In think there are 2 possibilities:
.) It is a hardware limitation of the panel and they will come up with some marketing bs why you dont need it
.) It is a SW bug and they announce that they will fix it
While it is true that you most likely will not see tearing at 120Hz with vsync off it is still not as smooth as with vsync. Lets say you have a game playing at 50fps the actual framerate you will see on screen when looking at one part of the screen varies from 40fps to 60fps because. So VRR ist still an advantage, but I agree that 120Hz is much more important.
I’ve gamed at 4k 120hz using my 2080 super, a Club 3D DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 4K 120Hz adapter, and a 16 ft Zeskit 48gbs cable. It was incredible with zero tearing playing COD Modern Warfare. This was with V sync off controlled by the game. It was basically perfection. I stopped and purposely let my soldier spin around right after the match started and it was silky smooth without a single tear. This is the best gaming motion I’ve ever seen on a LCD or OLED to date!!! And my Latency was round 7 to 9ms per Nvidia Performance Console, 120 hz blurring at 100 scaling bug is real but nothing is touching Sony in motion handling and latency at the moment….and this is without the ALLM and VRR update!!!!!
I posted my little testing about this as well 4k 120 is definitely a little blurry at 100% scaling. It’s a none issue 200 or 300% which is the real world scaling people using on large TVs.
Also motion is perfect at 4k 120hz. No screen tearing even without VRR. Latency was supper low as well per Nvidia Performance Console
I wish it had a about 500 more nits of brightness but the 900h has the best motion handling in it’s class and even beyond. Motion is basically perfect on this TV
While we don’t currently directly penalize the review for bugs, there are a few places where the bugs on this TV impact the score. For example, since we can’t test VRR properly due to the bugs, we can’t determine the range, so it currently scores a 0 in that box. eARC support isn’t included in our scoring at all, and the impact to the score for 120Hz support is very small.
These issues are significant though, and you’re absolutely right, people need to know about them before buying this TV. If you have any suggestions on ways we could make this more clear in the review, let us know!
As for the reddish tint, this seems to be a wide-spread issue. We decided to publish our results anyway, since our unit is functional and it doesn’t significantly affect the test results (see our policy here).
Thanks for the explanation guys. I assume Vizio is certainly aware of these issues. That reddish tint is the most concerning though. I guess the panel lottery is in play with this model and an extended warranty is a must. Had really high hopes for this TV
On the June 2020 and later Rev A03 units, 144Hz is no longer an option with either HDMI or DP. It is 60/120 on HDMI and 60/120/164 on DP within Windows settings.
Here is an example of the new unit DP refresh rate options: https://i.imgur.com/Ecl1XAe.png
Why hasn’t Dell provided EDID updates for us existing owners? Is there any difference from me creating a custom resolution at 120hz via Nvidia Control Panel?
Agreed…some of the rating are even worse than 2018 6 Series. I have the 2019 75 inch 6 Series which is a even better TV than the 65 inch. Black Uniformity is excellent on my TV and most folks say the same about their 75 inch. My only gripe is the local dimming around bright letters but obviously this is an issue on all TCLs as it relates to the more upscale competition
So as I see it, it is still unknown if this TV even has full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on port 4 ? It is possible that it has HDMI 2.0 and only some hdmi 2.1 features included in that port?
As there is also no native resolution 4k @ 120hz included in TV manual. I believe that, as soon new gen xbox and playstation come out, you will be able to test that and confirm or deny if it is 4k@120 HDMI 2.1 TV or not ?
If that is true, I will still wait ‘till November and then decide if it is worth buying or not…
Thank you for your awesome work RTINGS team.
I’ve made the decision to not purchase any of these TVs until either the RTX 3090 releases (hopefully it has HDMI 2.1 and should) or when the next gen consoles release.
Haha, it’s definitely not the best TV, but they usually are popular, which is why we tested it. This had no impact on our Vizio or TCL reviews, as the only one we’ve received is the TCL 6 series, which came in today.
Nice!!! Thank you guys for all that do 🙏🏾. Hopefully you all can get your hands on the controversial P75QX-HI as well. I even cancelled my order until after you review it.
Does any have the 900h and can comment on blooming, black levels, and input lag?
I know they are on sale now but there is no reviews on tv
I guess we have to be patient for the review but I have the same questions. It may also be smart to see what Vizio has to offer as well. But again this is very disappointing from Sony. They dropped the ball on this.
Input lag is a bit worse on the LG CX compared to the C9. The C9 is ultimate for both gamers and movie fans. I use 2080ti with both and C9 is a lot better
What resolution are you gaming at with the C9? Are you gaming at 4k 60hz or 1440p 120hz…with VRR helping fps dips with both?
Sorry about any confusion, they are both supposed to support the same formats (4k, 120Hz, 4:4:4, 10 bit).
Any idea on when you guys will get the Sony 950H and/or 900H. This q80t, those Sonys, and possibly the upcoming Vizios Quantams are my top choices as I really need VRR with 1440p/4k 120hz along with good motion and HDR performance as I game, watch a lot of movies, and sports.
But it’s good to know this q80t has checked off all my needs so far. I do wish Samsung would adopt Dolby Vision though as it looks superb coming from Netflix.
Also glad to see you guys working again. Thank you!!!!!!!!
I don’t believe it’s a mistake. Simply they have limited resources to test the same model of television in different sizes. As for reviews on Best Buy and other sites, those can be a bit misleading as you really don’t know what kind of viewer is posting about them. Many people simply leave their TVs in vivid mode with all types of picture processing on.
Dude I own the TV so I’’m speaking from experience. The 75 and 65 inch 6 Series are different…settings and all.
You are correct the TCL 6 Series R617 should have been listed in the article. Not as a pick, however, since the Samsung UN75RU8000 is a better gaming option. We included it in the ‘Notable mentions’ section. Thank you for letting us know.
I really believe Rtings has made a mistake not independently reviewing the 75 inch 6 series. It’s additional dimming zones and 480 Natural Motion processing is superior to the other 6 series models. People can debate whether it has a 60Hz or 120Hz panel all day but it’s motion processing is outstanding….and it’s sales shows this along with excellent real world reviews on various sites such as Best Buy
It has more zones because there is more area to cover. Just like the 65" has more zones than the 55". Although the 55" has more zones per square inch than the 65" has.
Also the TCL 6 Series can now do HLG HDR. That’s a big feature to add to the list.
I will never buy another Samsung Soundbar again!!!! The SmartThings app will NOT recognize my 990C since its major update last year. I talked to Samsung support for over an hour. Also I will never buy another soundbar that doesn’t have a native video UI. Never again!

Looks like TCL has another winner on their hands. Pretty good review
For the record I am an early access subscriber!!!
Why isn’t 65 inch models the size you buy by default? I’m just curious as it’s arguably the most popular TV size.
C1 or CX…you won’t regret it. This is coming from a former 900H owner that was returned for a CX.
