I’ve seen gameplay videos with the CX demonstrating OLED motion plus and it was noted by some that blur is still present, but not that noticable. Turning it on low did help and there was no noticeable flicker. It might be okay and hopefully that helps you
Hey rtings folks,
Could you post a photo of this page (below) with the same settings that you used with the BFI issue you mentioned in the review?

Blur Busters agrees – there is some unusual issue. Double images at 120Hz suggests that the TV may be frame-skipping, displaying only 60 unique refresh cycles at 120Hz, since double images on impulsed displays is a scientific confirmation of half frame rate.

Could anyone take the test and take pictures? Rtings, you got the right Equipment. Any chance you will Look into this matter?

I thought double images should be normal if you feed 60fps content and activate 120Hz BFI (2:2 Pulldown). It’s not exactly clear which framerate content rtings fed to the TV when taking the image. “When the TV is set to 120HZ” could refer to 120Hz content being fed to the TV, but also that the BFI was set to 120Hz (with content fed at 60Hz, resulting in “normal” double imaging).
If rtings did actually feed 120fps content and there is double imaging with BFI set to 120Hz, this means that BFI does not work properly with 120fps content.
@MoD_7 You will get perfect BFI and perfect motion clarity without any double images with BFI at 60Hz and content at 60fps, but it will flicker like hell. With BFI at 120HZ there is considerably less flicker, still some improved motion, but you will get double images with 60fps content. There SHOULDN’T be any double images with 120Hz BFI at 120fps content. According to the picture rtings took there is, however. That is the issue in question here.
So one of the only major reasons to consider the CX over the C9 is actually broken? Sigh…
It’s not broken at all: 60Hz BFI is the same as last years C9 (works as it should, but is virtually unusable). 120Hz BFI works for 60fps and 24p content as it should and as far as I was told it works reasonably well, especially in auto mode (which wasn’t mentioned at all in the rtings test). Only 120Hz for 120fps is still a question mark.

Ok, so only semi-broken. It’s good that it works for 24p content as that’s where I would expect it to be most useful. Still, having implemented this feature in time for the C9 launch but removed it at the last second, I would’ve expected them to have polished it to the point where it was mostly perfect in the CX by now.

Thank you for taking the time. Yeah i really wish it works as intended. I will have to see it for myself to know if it is negligible or not

Thank you very much for your reply. Hopefully they can fix that via firmware update.

Thanks alot for the info, i wonder if this is a common issue with bfi or just lg’s firmware ..

Thanks for the tip! We looked into it a bit more, and you’re right, it is frame-skipping in certain circumstances. We’ll add a detailed note to the review tomorrow.

Thanks for the thorough review and follow-up. I own a 55" C9 and was planning on upgrading to the 48" CX for gaming. This issue with 120Hz BFI and the general downgrade in input latency put those plans on hold for now. Hopefully they come out with a firmware fix in the near future - and that you guys retest at that point :)
Why does this tv double strobe 60hz content when using the medium motion pro setting? It’s reduced flicker but it creates a bad double image effect that actually makes 60hz motion worse. The only motion setting that works well for 60hz content is high and the brightness drop is dramatic like 75% also the input lag jumps up to 29ms.
Medium BFI works at 120Hz. To display a 60Hz signal every frame has to be doubled (2:2 Pulldown). That’s why you see double strobing.
