Hi! Wouldn’t it make more sense to measure the factory calibration at brightness levels that are closer to the standard, like 100 nits? The main reason is that at least some OLED monitors seem to have variations in “Gamma”/SDR EOTF behaviour depending on the peak brightness level. Such behavior has been observed with Alienware AW3423DW/F and Samsung S60D at the very least. The default brightness setting and the resulting brightness level in sRGB emulation modes differ between manufacturers and specific models. But I don’t think there’s a reason to believe that this is the result of any particularly deliberate desicions, i.e. the intended way to use the displays in this picture mode, in most cases. There’s not much, if any, facts and cues to suggest otherwise, at least. I think that stating the default brightness setting and the corresponding brightness level in the description would be better, if this information even may be deemed necessary to provide or in any way relevant at all.

Hi, we test the brightness at the monitor’s default in pre-calibration to provide a sense of how it performs out-of-the-box. Some monitors lock their brightness settings in their sRGB mode, so measuring the default brightness level tells us how bright the monitor is if brightness adjustments aren’t possible. That said, you raise some interesting points—we’ll pass them along to our R&D team. Thanks for the suggestions!

  2. Update: We clarified the differences between this monitor and the ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27UCDMG in the Variants section.

Did you test input lag with Dynamic Brightness Boost on? I’d like to turn It on because It helps me with eyestrain, but I’m not sure of It increases input lag. Thank you very much

    Hi there,

We did not use the Dynamic Boost setting for input lag. I would not expect it to make a great impact on input lag. If the setting helps you, you can always keep it on unless you find it to be causing too much of an impact on input lag.

Are you planning on reviewing the XG27UCDMG?

At some point yes! We’ll most likely purchase it in the next few weeks if everything goes according to plan!

Hi, you’re understanding that correctly, we tested the brightness before calibration with brightness set to 80. Some monitors lock brightness in the sRGB mode, but this one doesn’t, so if you find the brightness too low in sRGB at 80 you can just turn it up. We don’t test brightness at max before calibration, but it’ll be brighter than with brightness at 80. However, since we didn’t test it we can’t say how much.

Hey, thank you for your quick answer! I’m glad to hear that, maybe some webpage rendering picture could be great too, and some typical object, icon or drawing that we usually see on windows, while working or browsing (but it’s not really “text” related ^^). Maybe also a game picture, with ingame text on different color/background. I don’t have other test to improve in mind but I’d be glad to give you a feedback if I do in the future! Thank you for listening the community :) And thank you again for all these amazing review, you are really helping us to choose the best for everyone! <3

Haha anytime, we always appreciate the feedback and support! :)

Hey, good points. The text clarity test is something we’re looking to improve, so we appreciate the feedback. Is there anything else you’d like to see improved with this test, or any test for that matter?
