Can you use this soundbar without the rear satellite speakers? How will it affect its performance?

Thanks for your question. You can use the Vizio M512a-H6 without the rear surround speakers connected. The soundbar will play audio from the bar and subwoofer. It’ll attempt to compensate for the lack of surround speakers by playing the left and right rear channel audio through the soundbar, but this can vary and will depend on the source of the audio and the type of content being played. As for performance without the rear satellites, we don’t have measurements taken for that unfortunately, but it’s within reason to expect 5.1 audio playback won’t be as good as with the satellites connected.

Hi there team, I bought this soundbar , but I noticed the centre soundbar channel (driver) has very little sound almost off compared to others channels of the soundbar . Did you also notice this while testing , and how can I fix ?
Update: We’ve updated our Surrounds 5.1 text to reflect this bar’s performance after changing the position of the subwoofer, as recommended by Vizio.

Hi, Could you comment on the very high measured standard error for the surround speakers? The number (9.29 dB) and its corresponding score component (0.7/10) are very low, yet the write-up of this section (Surround 5.1) is positive. Is standard error of surrounds subjectively not very important for enjoyable surround sound, or is this perhaps an errant measurement?

Sorry for the late reply. You’re definitely right that the text doesn’t match the measurements here. We originally tested the bar in 2022, and there’s been a lot of changes since then including test benches, which would explain the mismatch in text and measurements. We don’t always have the resources to update our text with each change, but thank you for bringing this up and we’ll correct it as soon as we can.
