    Reviewing the 8bitdo FAMICON version

After having a few expensive mechanical keyboards over the years, I am more than pleasantly surprised by this kbs satisfying click and functionality. I now use it as my daily driver. It has replaced all my kbs. I use a separate numpad for when I need it - which is hardly a complaint at all considering 8bitdoโ€™s deliberate design choice.

The build quality is great. It worked out of the box on my ThinkPadโ€™s Linux Mint distro, and is small enough to carry to and from work in my backpack. I like the minimalist retro design and nod to the 80s famicon system.

I wish I knew if there was a way to enable the hiragana characters on the keyboard - if there is, please let me know.

    Build quality

    Sturdy and robust - 5/5

    Tactile feel

Satisfying high profile keys; the keyboard has weight - 5/5

    Compatibilty

Out of the box on compatibility for iOS, Windows, and all tested Linux distros (Mint, Ubuntu, Arch, Kali) - 5/5

    Sound

High pitched loud, but not noisy - 5/5

    Modding

Switching caps is easy and supported. It is difficult to open the main kb chassis however - 4/5

  2. Update: Weโ€™ve concerted this review to Test Bench 1.3.1, which adds a new estimated PCB latency test to the Single-Key Latency section and a new Analog test to the Switches section of this review. You can see the full changelog here.
