  1. Update: We’ve converted this review to Test Bench 1.1. This update adds several new tests addressing Hardware Customization, Macro Keys And Programming, and Wireless Mobile Compatibility. We’ve also added new objective evaluations to the Typing Noise test, and we’ve simplified several tests and removed several others that were no longer relevant. For an in-depth look at all our changes, you can see our full changelog here.

A seriously excellent and affordable keyboard. Not sure why RTINGS rated this so low in certain categories - I’ve used one for 5ish years and it’s one of the best non-mechanical keyboards you can get. The board is actually quite sturdy considering it’s a full plastic build - deck flex is negligible with regular typing, so is great for extended gaming and all around use. Guessing the reviewers are just heavy handed?

Sure, there’s not as much tactile feedback, but for a membrane keyboard it’s absolutely phenomenal. Having used both this and the Steelseries Apex 3 extensively, RTINGS is crazy to recommend that over this. If you’re looking for a good, affordable keyboard, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better deck.

    Hey captocombat,

Thanks for reaching out. You raise some good points. We certainly agree this keyboard is among the better non-mechanical keyboards available, and there’s a reason it’s remained a popular choice for so long.

In most cases, we’d recommend this keyboard over the full-size SteelSeries Apex 3 for most people. That said, we do primarily recommend the smaller SteelSeries Apex 3 TKL in several of our recommendation articles at the moment because it often dips to as low as $30 - $35 dollars, offering a viable option for those who aren’t considering higher price points.

Hopefully, that will shed some light on our thought process. We appreciate the feedback! Take care,
