The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is a budget-friendly upright vacuum. It delivers amazing cleaning performance on bare floors and is versatile enough to do a good overall job on both low and high-pile carpeting. It has a simple design that's easy to maintain, and it comes with a good selection of tools and accessories for when you're using it in its semi-handheld configuration. However, some users may find that its all-plastic construction feels a little cheap, and many parts require regular replacement, so recurring costs can add up over time. Still, if you're on a budget but aren't looking to sacrifice cleaning performance, this is a good option.

Our Verdict

7.1 Bare Floor

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is very good for bare floors. It clears everything from pet hair to bulky debris like cereal without an issue, and performance remains consistent as its dirtbag fills. While it's quite easy to maintain, several parts require regular replacement, so recurring costs are fairly high. You can turn off its brushroll, which should also let you go over surfaces like hardwood without fear of scratching it up.

Pros
  • Excellent bare floor cleaning performance.
  • Good selection of tools and accessories.
  • Easy to maintain.
Cons
  • Some debris can get stuck on inside of vacuum hose.
  • High recurring costs.
7.0 Low-Pile Carpet

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is a decent choice for low-pile carpet. It clears pet hair easily and does a good job with fine material like baking soda. It doesn't struggle too much with coarser material like sand, though some debris can get stuck to the inside of its hose rather than get sucked into its dirtbag. While there are a couple of disposable parts, routine maintenance is fairly easy due to the vacuum's simple construction.

Pros
  • Good selection of tools and accessories.
  • Easy to maintain.
Cons
  • Some debris can get stuck on inside of vacuum hose.
  • High recurring costs.
6.7 High-Pile Carpet

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is a satisfactory option for high-pile carpet. It does an outstanding job of cleaning pet hair, and it shouldn't take too many extra passes to clear fine material like baking soda. Its performance in regards to clearing coarse sand-like debris is similarly good, but some debris can get stuck to the inside of its hose. It also has fairly high recurring costs but is fairly simple to maintain.

Pros
  • Good selection of tools and accessories.
  • Easy to maintain.
Cons
  • Some debris can get stuck on inside of vacuum hose.
  • High recurring costs.
6.9 Pets

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is excellent for pet owners. It clears pet hair on all surfaces and has a dirtbag made of an allergen-trapping HEPA material. You can also remove its brushroll to clear hair wraps by hand too. Unfortunately, there are quite a few parts that need to be regularly replaced.

Pros
  • Superb pet hair cleaning performance.
  • Easy to maintain.
  • Removable brushroll to clear hair wraps.
Cons
  • Some debris can get stuck on inside of vacuum hose.
  • High recurring costs.
5.6 Stairs

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is middling for dealing with messes on stairs. Its upright design isn't especially well-suited for cleaning stairs, and its heavy weight makes it a little tricky to carry around. However, it does an excellent job of clearing debris on surfaces like hardwood and delivers good overall performance on carpeted surfaces. It can also be used in a semi-handheld configuration by detaching its handle from the main body, but its short hose limits its versatility in this application.

Pros
  • Good selection of tools and accessories.
  • Easy to maintain.
Cons
  • Short vacuum hose.
  • Some debris can get stuck on inside of vacuum hose.
  • Bulky design.
5.7 Cars

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is an upright vacuum that isn't meant to clean cars.

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged, which has the model name UH30301, is only available in a single variant, and you can see its label here.

If someone comes across a differently-equipped model, let us know in the discussions so we can update our review.

Compared To Other Vacuums

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is a basic upright vacuum. It has excellent performance on bare floors and does a good overall job on carpeted surfaces. It also has a reasonably wide selection of tools and accessories to help you tackle messes on furniture or in tight corners. Unfortunately, it's quite bulky, and its short vacuum hose makes it a little difficult to tackle messes on high-placed shelves. There are a couple of parts that require regular replacement, so recurring costs can add up over time. If you're looking for alternatives, take a look at our recommendations of the best upright vacuums, the best multi-surface vacuums, and the best vacuums for carpets.

BISSELL PowerForce Helix

The BISSELL PowerForce Helix and the Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged each have their own strengths. The BISSELL has a lighter bagless design that incurs lower recurring costs, and it clears more debris on both low- and high-pile carpets. That said, the Hoover is better built, more maneuverable, and easier to maintain. It also comes with more tools and does a better job on bare floors.

Hoover WindTunnel 2 Whole House Rewind

The Hoover WindTunnel 2 Whole House Rewind and Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged are fairly evenly matched, but you may prefer one over the other depending on your own needs. The Rewind has a bagless design that incurs virtually no recurring costs and performs similarly on carpeted floors. On the other hand, the Tempo Bagged is lighter, more maneuverable, and better-built, with superior cleaning performance on bare floors.

BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus [Turbo, Turbo Rewind]

The BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus and Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged have different advantages. The BISSELL has a bagless design and performs better on both low- and high-pile surfaces, where it clears material like baking soda or sand more effectively. However, the Hoover performs better on bare floors and is far easier to maintain, though with similarly high recurring costs.

Sanitaire PROFESSIONAL Upright

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is a better overall vacuum than the Sanitaire PROFESSIONAL Upright. The Hoover is better built, comes with a broader selection of tools, and delivers better cleaning performance on bare floors and high-pile carpets. It's also easier to maneuver, despite being a little heavier. Meanwhile, the Sanitaire clears lightly more coarse sand-like debris on low-pile carpets.

Kenmore Intuition Bagged

The Kenmore Intuition Bagged is slightly more versatile than the Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged. The Kenmore is slightly lighter, has lower recurring costs, and cleans most kinds of debris more effectively on all surface types. It also comes with an allergen-trapping post-motor HEPA filter and dirtbag. That said, the Hoover does a better job of cleaning pet hair on bare floors.

Upright

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged has an okay build quality. It has entirely plastic construction, though the material varies in quality depending on the component in question. The main body feels solid, but smaller parts like the dust bin cover's handle and wheels feel somewhat flimsy, as do some of the attachment points inside the dirtbag compartment. It doesn't require too much setup out-of-the-box, requiring you only to attach the handle via a single screw and fit the dirtbag compartment door in place.

User Maintenance

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged is easy to maintain.

  • Dirtbag: To access the dirtbag, you need to unlatch the dirtbag compartment door and push in the red release lever. The dirtbag should be replaced once it's full.
  • Pre-motor filter: The pre-motor filter is located in the bag compartment. It can be removed by unclipping the filter cover. It should be washed under cold water if you notice that it's dirty.
  • Post-motor filter: The post-motor filter is located on the side of the bag compartment and can be removed after pulling the tab on the filter holder. It should be cleaned regularly under cold water, though no precise maintenance interval is specified.
  • Brushroll: The brushroll can be pulled out after pressing the two release latches for the brush cover. You can clear any tangled hair or stuck-on debris by hand.
  • Drive belt: The drive belt can be removed after you take off the brush cover and pull out the brushroll. It only needs to be replaced if you notice that it's stretched out or damaged in any way.
  • Other components: While no maintenance intervals are specified, you can clean the headlight, turbo brush, and hose if you notice a buildup of debris.

You must completely air-dry any part that's washed with water before using it again.

Recurring Cost
Bag Part Number 902419001
Filter Part Number No replaceable filters
HEPA Filter Part Number No HEPA Filter

It has high recurring costs.

  • Dirtbag: The dirtbag needs to be replaced when full, but the 902419001 variant that comes with the vacuum isn't available for purchase on Hoover's website. The manual suggests the model number 902481001 bag as an alternative, which is also made of an allergen-trapping HEPA material and can be purchased from the manufacturer's website.
  • Drive belt: The drive belt should be replaced if it's stretched-out or damaged. A replacement can be purchased from the Hoover website.
  • Thankfully, the filters are washable, but you can also purchase replacement post-motor filters from the manufacturer's website too, if necessary.

Maneuverability

The Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged has okay maneuverability. Its lack of a rotating head makes it harder to maneuver in tight areas compared to uprights like the Miele Dynamic U1 PowerLine, but it rolls smoothly on uneven surfaces and can effectively go over low-lying obstructions like rug tassels or electrical cords. Cleaning under tables or couches can be a little tricky due to its bulky design, but configuring it into a semi-handheld vacuum to clean on top of furniture is a simple process. Courtesy of its onboard tool storage rack, all of its specialized brushes and accessories are also within easy reach.
