HDR10+ Theater mode settings?

Greetings Rtings! I now own a 65U8K and I copied all the settings shown here. Though one thing threw me off and that was the lack of settings for HDR10+ Theater (assuming that’s the most accurate of the available HDR10+ modes). What values did you use for HDR10+ Theater if you calibrated that mode? Would it be ideal to just leave everything as is (and turn off all the processing modes) or to change some values around?

Thanks again in advance!

Just curious, I would like to adopt the calibration posted. What actual settings do I need to change in the ‘Custom 1’ profile?

We don’t suggest copying over our calibrated settings because each unit requires different calibration values, so your unit would be different from ours!

I’ve had 4 of these panels (two M32U, and two from the rereleased Arm Edition M32AE (which is the same panel it just came with a monitor arm and no base).

They all had a very noticeable buzz coil whine sounds that fluctuated based on how long it was turned on. The issue could be remedied temporarily by shutting off the monitor and turning it back on but this was a band aid at best. The noise would always return. I recognize that all monitors if you put your ear right up to the back tend to make some sort of noise. Electronics make noise. I get that. But the M32U noise was egregious. Firmware didn’t help, even though it was promising at first when one of the descriptions was an (albeit light on details) “Fixed noise issue”. Didn’t help.

My feature request is that RTINGS implements coil whine, buzz, etc…overall noise methodology to their test sweet. Thank you.

We’ve had a lot of suggestions to improve our testing for fan noise, but it’s important that we don’t miss out on coil whine as well. Our office in Montréal has a pretty high noise floor, so we may be less sensitive to noise than customers who bring the monitor into their homes, but that just means we need to be extra diligent to make sure we test for it. Thank you for letting us know about the noise on the M32U. I’ve let our team know how important this is.

  6. Update: Added that the Lenovo Legion Y32p-30 provides similar performance but delivers more power over USB-C.

This monitor is absolutely PHENOMINAL. I like to stick by Samsung, Dell and LG because these are very expensive electronics that I hope will last at least 3 years. With such expensive electronics I would rather go with the safer bet. I read and watched many reviews. I had to give this monitor a shot. Its amazing. I am running a 13th Generation i5, 32 DDR5 (6000 MHZ.) Nvidia 4070 - WIndows 11. I have the refurbished Monitor. Refurbished by the manufacturer is normally a safe bet. I did find a very slight scratch on the screen and some smudge marks. If buying the refurbished model, I would suggest to try and check it at the store. Using a flash light to inspect is really a good idea. I wish I did that, but live and learn. Electronicly Yours - The Tech Critic (DovTov613).

Colour controls are horrendous for this price.

    1) “Black equalizer” affects whole tonal range, it’s like Gamma adjustment. LMAO 2) Black equalizer is not applied after standby if Custom 1 mode was selected before going to standby 3) Black equalizer is applied even to sRGB mode depending on what profiles I select beforehand 4) Somehow light gray colours get strong pink tint at any Black equalizer setting higher than 11. What’s funny is that I’ve also got cyan tint earlier today somehow. 5) “Black equalizer” literally blows light gray colours off at 18 setting. 6) Genius “6 axis colour control” strongly affects saturated colour brightness. If you reduce saturation you also get reduced brigtness.

At the same time there’s no other way to bring black tones close to sRGB because there’s no ‘sRGB’ setting for gamma.

Okay, what if you give up and just use sRGB mode and tune white balance in GPU control panel? Then you get “Smart OD” setting locked which has huge overshoot.

Truly horrible experience simply trying to get neutral sRGB colours. Sure enough, I’m on F11 firmware.

You do know this monitor was a budget 4k 120/144hz release from 2021, correct?

While I absolutely believe the crap contrast issues you are having, its because its a budget monitor that was pushing new/expensive features as a low price point. Also panel lottery is real. Mine wasn’t as bad as yours, but yes, its no OLED.

Side note. Gigabyte support sucks, RMA process takes forever. Will be avoiding the brand moving forward.

I am not used to missing basic features at high price. Monitor software is not hand-crafted from scratch for each model, the basic features should always work flawlessly. I’m 99% positive that colour adjustment is not any better on any Gigabyte’s monitor.

Also, it’s not like I can know about problems which I described from some professional review organization in advance, can I?

They’re the same as the monitor supports around 25 Gbps bandwidth on both HDMI and DisplayPort, so your graphics card needs to use compression to reach the max refresh rate on either connection.

  15. Update: We’ve converted this review to Test Bench 2.0. This includes new tests for VRR Motion Performance, Refresh Rate Compliance, Cumulative Absolute Deviation (CAD), and VRR Flicker. You can read the full changelog here.

Ive been interested in buying this monitor but apparently the bandwidth only hdmi 2.1 is limited to 24gbps. Is this still the case? And if so how does it affect picture/colour quality and frame rates on PS5 since this is apparently not a problem for XBOX

Lower bandwidth means VESA DSC is used to fit the data in. I also wondered what’s the impact on quality is and in short: you won’t be able to ever see it because it does not affect gradients. I posted my findings on BlurBusters: https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?p=95528#p95528

Hi, the PS5 doesn’t appear to support DSC, so you’d likely have to use 4:2:0 subsampling if you wanted to use 4k @ 120Hz with 10 bit color with it.

It retailed up to $900 when it was released. That’s not a budget monitor.

  20. Update: Converted to Test Bench 2.0.1.
