The Anta C202 7 is a carbon-plated super trainer designed for faster training, uptempo long runs, and race day. It combines a lightweight mesh upper with a plated midsole and a steep rocker that gives the shoe a smooth, rolling sensation through transitions. That geometry is one of its defining traits, helping it feel quick and efficient without being overly harsh or difficult to handle. The result is a plated option that feels fairly approachable for runners moving up from traditional trainers, building toward longer races, or wanting one shoe that can cover steady workouts and race efforts alike.

Our Verdict

8.1
Marathon Racing

The Anta C202 7 is a strong marathon option for runners who want a plated shoe that's protective enough for longer efforts without becoming overly unstable. Its rocker helps carry you forward efficiently as fatigue builds, and the cushioning has enough depth to keep the miles from feeling overly harsh. That said, runners who aren't used to aggressive rockers may notice some calf tightness until they adjust to it. Overall, it doesn't come across as the most ultralight and efficient marathon racer, but it should work especially well for runners who prefer a rocker-driven toe-off and smooth transitions.

Pros
  • Protective cushioning, especially under the heel.

  • Solid forefoot rebound pairs well with the rocker to keep transitions efficient.

  • Fairly stable platform for a plated shoe.

Cons
  • Not as light as top racing shoes.

8.0
5K/10K Racing

The Anta C202 7 works very well for 5K and 10K racing, where its light build, snappy forefoot, and pronounced rocker help it turn over efficiently. It feels fast enough for shorter races, but its character is smoother and more manageable than the top super shoes designed specifically for short-distance racing. That said, it's still a great fit for runners looking for an efficient plated shoe with a pronounced rocker-driven toe-off that works well for both weekly workouts and the occasional race.

Pros
  • Solid forefoot rebound pairs well with the rocker to keep transitions efficient.

  • Relatively firm tuning of the foam under the forefoot makes for a snappy ride.

Cons
  • Not as light as top racing shoes.

7.5
Energy Return

The Anta C202 7 delivers solid rebound, focusing on delivering smooth propulsion and rolling momentum. There's enough pop to make workouts and racing feel efficient, especially under the forefoot. This translates into a dependable, consistent bounce that naturally pairs well with the steep rocker.

Pros
  • Solid forefoot rebound pairs well with the rocker to keep transitions efficient.

Cons
None
8.1
Cushioning

The Anta C202 7 offers great cushioning, giving it enough underfoot substance for long runs, workouts, and race day without feeling overly bulky. That protection helps make it both approachable and consistent. Overall, it has enough cushion to keep the ride from feeling unforgiving, but it's not ultraplush either. In fact, powerful runners who apply high forces when striking won't find it as protective.

Pros
  • Protective cushioning, especially under the heel.

Cons
None
7.3
Lateral Stability

The Anta C202 7 is decently stable, especially for a plated performance shoe, a category that often gives up control in the name of efficiency. It feels secure enough in most situations, especially for runners with a neutral gait or with efficient mechanics. Still, it doesn't have any specific guidance features, and its premium foam is a bit soft under the heel, so it can feel less reassuring if you tend to lose form late in runs or prefer a more planted base.

Pros
  • Fairly stable platform for a plated shoe.

Cons
  • Softer heel can feel less planted.

7.2
True To Size

The Anta C202 7 doesn't feel perfectly true to size. It has enough toe box volume to avoid feeling cramped, but its length runs a tiny bit shorter than ideal, and the arch feels fairly constricting. Overall, the fit leans snug and performance-oriented rather than relaxed. Runners who like a close, race-ready fit likely won't need to size up, but those who prefer a bit more breathing room or want to use this shoe for training long runs will probably prefer to go up half a size.

Pros
  • Good amount of volume in the toebox.

Cons
  • Arch feels noticeably snug.

  • Length runs a bit short overall.

    Differences Between Sizes And Variants

We bought and tested the ANTA C202 7 in men's U.S. size 9, as noted on the size label found inside our pair. The pair we bought is the Purplish Red/Black colorway, which, despite its name, contains exactly zero red. The shoe is available in a few other colorways, including Black/Silver, White/Silver, and Nirvana. This model isn't sold in wide or narrow fits. The design section applies only to the exact model we tested, but we expect other sizes and gender variants to perform similarly.

    Popular Running Shoe Comparisons

The ANTA C202 7 is a plated trainer that stands out as one of the very best on the market, not just when viewed through the lens of affordability, but also for its impressive combination of weight, cushioning, and energy return. While the ANTA Sports Group is already established worldwide as a huge sportswear conglomerate (among the world's top three behind Nike and adidas), the ANTA label itself is still very much in challenger mode outside China, even as it pushes harder into performance running, as shown by its partnership with Kenenisa Bekele.

The ANTA C202 7 brings together light weight, cushioning, energy return, and snappiness unusually well, whereas many other super trainers tend to lean harder into one aspect while giving something back elsewhere. The HOKA Mach X 3 is more cushioned, the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 is bouncier, the adidas Adizero Boston 13 is snappier, and the ASICS MAGIC SPEED 5 is lighter, but the ANTA offers the most convincing overall balance of those traits, which is why it can therefore double as a race-day option. More broadly, it also shows that ANTA (along with brands like Xtep, 361°, and Li-Ning) has moved well beyond the old perception of Chinese running brands as cheap knockoffs and is now clearly capable of competing at the front edge of innovation.

Within ANTA's performance running lineup, the C202 7 sits in the super trainer slot, while the ANTA C202 5 GT is the more energetic super shoe, and the ANTA C202 6 Pro is the lighter, more aggressive super shoe.

    Saucony Endorphin Speed 5

    Track

The ANTA C202 7 and the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 are both super trainers with a similar drop, but they emphasize different aspects of performance. The ANTA C202 7 is lighter and more cushioned, giving it a slightly more protective feel underfoot for longer sessions. The Saucony leans more toward energy return and forefoot snap, with a bouncier midsole and a broader platform that makes it feel more stable overall. Also, the ANTA has a tighter arch, while the Saucony offers a more accommodating midfoot, making it the better choice if you have a wider arch.

    ANTA C202 5 GT

    Track

The ANTA C202 7 and ANTA C202 5 GT target different roles despite sharing a performance-oriented DNA. The ANTA C202 7 is a super trainer, offering more cushioning and a more balanced blend of comfort and efficiency that makes it more practical to use for workouts and general faster training sessions without feeling overly specialized. The C202 5 GT is the more race-focused super shoe, feeling lighter, bouncier, and a bit higher stacked, which gives it a more aggressive feel for when the goal is pure efficiency.

    ASICS MAGIC SPEED 5

    Track

The ANTA C202 7 and the ASICS MAGIC SPEED 5 are both super trainers with partial carbon plates, but they have a few major differences. The ANTA C202 7 is the more cushioned and more absorbent option, with a higher stack and a midsole that returns a touch more energy, giving it a slightly more protective and comfort-oriented feel for fast efforts. Its plate runs from the forefoot and extends farther back. The ASICS MAGIC SPEED 5 is the more minimal and more nimble of the two, with a lighter build and a more stripped-back feel that makes it come across as especially efficient when you want quicker turnover. Its plate sits in a more central position under the midfoot.

    How We Test Running Shoes
    How We Test Running Shoes

We buy and test running shoes with a very data-oriented approach. While we're just getting started, our methodology already has dozens of tests to help you make the right purchasing decision for your needs. Not only do we use high-end equipment to gather objective data, but we also order multiple sizes of the same shoes so team members can log in miles. This real-world testing is conducted at various paces and conditions, across different types of workouts, to cover all the bases. This allows us to verify our results and ensure they align with what you might feel with a specific pair.
