LG G4 OLED
Samsung S90D OLED
The LG G4 OLED and the Samsung S90D OLED are both amazing TVs, but there are some differences worth noting. The Samsung has a wider color gamut, so it can display more vibrant and lifelike colors, and it has better color volume, so it can display brighter colors. The S90D also has no noticeable banding in colors, while the LG does have some banding in certain colors. On the other hand, the LG has better low-quality content smoothing, so it's the better choice if you regularly watch DVDs or low-quality streams. The LG also supports both Dolby Vision and DTS audio formats, which is great if you're looking to get the most out of your 4k Blu-ray collection. On top of that, the LG has better SDR brightness, so it overcomes more glare in a bright room.

Hi there, I’m looking at these two TVs in 65" presently. The G4 is about £200+ more expensive in the UK right now and was wondering if it’s worth spending the extra money?
The most important differences for my use case seems to be better SDR brightness and low quality content smoothing for the G4. Do these areas alone warrant the additional £££?
For context, I’m mostly playing media using Plex on an Nvidia Shield Pro, with a lots of HDR rips of physical media, but there’s proportionally much more lower bitrate SDR content from older DVDs and Blurays. Would the Shield’s AI upscaling help mitigate the S90Ds poorer content smoothing, for example?
How dim would SDR content look on the S90D compared to the G4? The TV would primarily be used during evenings in a dark environment but for casual use, it’s also important that it can be used during the day. There are large windows nearby where it’s difficult to block out all the light with blinds/curtains. Is the better SDR brightness of the G4 worth it if you’re just watching news/ normal TV programs and YouTube during daytime? If the S90D is bright enough I’d be tempted to stick with this.
The last query is whether the additional brightness of the G4 would be that visible as most HDR content presently is mastered to 1000 nits? It seems that maybe the improved colour gamut and colour volume of the S90D will have a greater HDR impact over the increased brightness of the G4?
Thanks in advance :)
No, the PS5 doesn’t do any processing of its own for streaming apps. It also doesn’t support Dolby Vision on streaming apps, whereas if you have a TV that supports DV, the built-in apps will support it. Built-in apps also work better when it comes to switching between SDR and HDR, displaying the content in the proper frame rate, and you use less power using the built-in apps versus the PS5. I’d recommend sticking to the TV’s built-in apps for streaming content. Thanks!
Does the difference in how TV’s process this matter if you’re using something like a PS5 to stream? Does it do any processing of it’s own?

We’re looking to buy a 77" OLED TV, but unfortunately we lost the panel lottery in Australia and the 77" S90D in Australia has a WOLED instead of a QD-OLED. Would you still recommend the S90D over the G4 for value if the S90D screen is a WOLED without MLA?
We also want to pair it with the Q990D soundbar. Would that change anything? Is Q-Symphony worth choosing a S90D if it doesn’t have QD-OLED?
