Sony X90L/X90CL
Sony BRAVIA 7
The Sony BRAVIA 7 QLED is better than the Sony X90L/X90CL. The BRAVIA 7 has better contrast with an improved local dimming solution. The BRAVIA 7 is also noticeably brighter than the X90L, especially in HDR, providing more impactful highlights overall. The X90L does have a wider viewing angle, although both TVs are disappointing in that department. Still, overall, the BRAVIA 7 is the better product in almost every category.

We don’t measure the minimum brightness of TVs at the moment, so I can’t provide you with an exact figure, but they should be similar. When we take the photos for the settings pages we set the TV to about 200 nits, and on both TVs that was achieved with a brightness setting of ‘7’.
Do both the X90L and the Bravia 7 go down to the same brightness at the lower brightness settings? I see the Bravia 7 can get a lot brighter but it’s not needed when watching in a dim environment like evening and night, thinking about returning X90L for Bravia 7 but we frequently use the X90L on its lowest brightness settings, min/5/10/15, at night/evenings. Do you know if the nits (or whatever the measure of brightness is, im not an expert) is the same on both TVs at these lowest brightness settings? thanks!
Yes, it does. The port is labeled “Digital Audio Out (Optical)”, just above the HDMI ports. Sony has switched from using full-sizes TOSLINK ports to a combination Mini TOSLINK port that doubles as the S-Center Speaker In port. There’s an included adapter that you can use to convert the Mini TOSLINK to a full-sized port.
Sony BRAVIA 7 does not appear to have Digital Optical Out as per inputs/outputs picture. Please update your section for this which is reporting it does. Only the Sony X90L/X90CL has it per picture.
