The Gourmia GAF798 is a large-capacity, 7-quart air fryer from Gourmia's big lineup of air fryers, which includes many similar models with slightly different presets and features. It has presets for specific foods like 'Fries' and 'Bacon' as well as for various methods like 'Reheat,' 'Bake,' and 'Broil.' Its controls also include a preheat mode and 'Turn Food' reminder, which are somewhat uncommon. Its 7-qt capacity is enough to cook for about four people.

Our Verdict

7.5 Air Frying

The Gourmia GAF798 is a good air fryer. It makes good-quality fried food, so things like vegetables, French fries, and chicken wings come out mostly golden brown and well-cooked. However, a small proportion is still undercooked when your food is ready. It cooks food quickly but has a very small fan speed range, which makes it less versatile and less useful for non-air frying methods like dehydrating.

Pros
  • Makes good-quality fried food.
  • Cooks food quickly.
  • Good amount of surface area for cooking.
Cons
  • Small fan speed range.
7.6 Large Batch Cooking

The Gourmia GAF798 is good for large-batch cooking. Its 7-qt overall capacity is enough to serve about four people. The basket has a good amount of surface area, so you have room to arrange food in a single layer. It also makes good-quality fried food quickly, although its limited fan speed range means it's not the most versatile.

Pros
  • Makes good-quality fried food.
  • Cooks food quickly.
  • Good amount of surface area for cooking.
Cons
  • Small fan speed range.
7.5 Frying Performance

The Gourmia GAF798 has a good frying performance. It makes good-quality fried food, with only a small proportion still undercooked when your food is ready. It's fast and has a good amount of surface area for you to arrange food in a single layer for the best results. However, it doesn't maintain a very stable temperature, which can make it hard to accurately follow recipes and cook delicate foods. It's somewhat slow to return to temperature after you add food.

Pros
  • Makes good-quality fried food.
  • Cooks food quickly.
  • Good amount of surface area for cooking.
Cons
  • Doesn't maintain a very stable temperature.
7.9 Cooking Speed

The Gourmia GAF798 is quite fast. Unlike most air fryers, it has a preheat mode to let you know when it's heated. While preheating takes a while compared to other air fryers, it cooks food quickly.

Pros
Cons
  • Preheats slowly.
7.7 Cooking Capacity

The Gourmia GAF798 has a good cooking capacity. Its 7-qt basket can fit enough food for about four people, and the basket has a good amount of surface area, so you can arrange food in a single layer.

7.1 Size

The Gourmia GAF798 is somewhat bulky, but it's not particularly big for its overall capacity.

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Gourmia GAF798 only comes in 'Black,' and the label for the unit is available. There's also the Gourmia GAF799, which has the same capacity, features, and power but has a window so you can see into the basket during cooking. We expect our results to be valid for that model as well.

If you encounter another variant, let us know in the comments, and we'll update our review.

Compared To Other Air Fryers

The Gourmia GAF798 is a mid-range air fryer. It has a good frying performance and includes a preheat mode and 'Turn Reminder' feature, which aren't standard on all air fryers. It has a good amount of cooking surface area in its 7-qt basket, but it's worth noting that some 6-qt fryers have the same amount of surface area, meaning if you want to upgrade your 6-qt fryer for something bigger, you might want an 8-qt model like the Ninja Foodi DZ201. It has modes for different foods and cooking methods, but it's not as versatile as models like the COSORI TurboBlaze, which offers more fan speed options.

It has a 7-qt overall capacity, which is enough to cook for about four people. However, its basket's surface area is around the same size as some fryers with a smaller overall capacity, so you have about as much room to arrange your food in a single layer as you do in the 6-qt Dreo ChefMaker.

It's decently versatile. It has a pretty good range of temperatures but doesn't get as hot as some air fryers. Its fan speed also doesn't change much between settings. There's a slightly lower fan speed for the dehydrate mode, but more versatile air fryers use a much lower fan speed for dehydrating.

There are nine different modes for different foods and cooking methods. Most are effectively identical since the only difference is the default cook time, which you can adjust. However, some modes let you select a longer cook time, and when using 'Dehydrate' or 'Keep Warm,' the preheat mode and turn reminder are unavailable.

It has mediocre temperature stability. It recovers its temperature slowly after you add food. During cooking, the temperature is decently stable, but there is some variation, making it difficult to predict when your food will be ready and to cook delicate foods like fish.
