Carpet is one of the trickier surfaces for a robot vacuum to handle; debris settles deep into the fibers, and the added resistance makes navigation more challenging than it is on hard floors. But the right model can keep your rugs consistently clean without you lifting a finger, running on a schedule while you're out, and tackling the kind of buildup that would otherwise require you to drag out a full-size vacuum.
We've tested more than 85 robot vacuums, and below are our recommendations for the best robot vacuums for carpet based on their performance, feature set, design, and price. For even more picks, check out our recommendations for the best robot vacuums, the best budget robot vacuums, and the best robot vacuums for pet hair.
Our robot vacuum recommendations come from our independent testing of more than 80 different models. We purchase every robot vacuum we test, with no cherry-picked units or data. Every robot vacuum goes through the same suite of tests, covering everything from user maintenance to obstacle avoidance. Our testers and writers validate the results to ensure you can easily compare each model side by side, and we keep the products in our lab so we can continuously retest them against the latest models.

Best Robot Vacuum For Carpet
Debris Pickup: CarpetDebris Pickup: Pet HairObstacle HandlingUser MaintenanceStation Maintenance CapabilitiesSee all our test resultsBrushroll TypeThe Dreame X50 Ultra is the best robot vacuum for carpets that we've tested, thanks to its strong pickup performance and advanced navigational system. This high-end model is a strong overall performer on carpeted floors, with a dual-roller cleaning head that can easily handle larger debris on low and high-pile carpets. That said, it can struggle with finer material that's been worked deep into carpet fibers, which is worth keeping in mind if you have any carpets or rugs near a screen door and frequently track in outdoor grit. Navigational performance is a highlight: its ProLeap lifting system is meant for crossing room thresholds, but is also invaluable for moving onto thicker carpeting, and its suite of camera and 3D structured light sensors allow it to consistently detect and avoid small and large obstacles. You can run mopping and vacuuming jobs in a multi-surface household without detaching and manually extending its mop pads, thanks to its mop pad lifting system that prevents carpets from getting wet.
This vacuum also features a retractable LIDAR turret, great for cleaning under couches and armchairs. Its multifunction docking station not only sucks debris from the vacuum's dustbin, but it also washes and dries its mop pads with heated water and air. It does have one main weakness: its bristled rollers really struggle with gathering up pet hair on carpeted surfaces.

Best Upper Mid-Range Robot Vacuum For Carpet
Debris Pickup: CarpetDebris Pickup: Pet HairObstacle HandlingUser MaintenanceStation Maintenance CapabilitiesSee all our test resultsBrushroll TypeFor those who don't mind less consistent obstacle avoidance performance and want a cheaper alternative that delivers similar performance on carpets, the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra is a great choice. The MOVA's Tri-Cut brushroll provides a good level of surface agitation, resulting in similar solid-debris pickup and superior pet-hair pickup on carpets. That doesn't necessarily make it a must-buy for pet owners, however: its hazard-avoidance system doesn't consistently detect and avoid pet waste, particularly on carpet. Cleaning up pet accidents is bad enough, but it can be even worse if the P50 were to run right over it and spread the mess around.
That issue aside, the MOVA is a strong performer that actually outperforms the pricier Dreame on bare floors, making it a solid choice if your home has a mix of hard floors and carpet. The full-featured dock takes care of emptying, mop washing and drying, and water refilling automatically, so day-to-day upkeep is minimal.

Best Mid-Range Robot Vacuum For Carpet
Debris Pickup: CarpetDebris Pickup: Pet HairObstacle HandlingUser MaintenanceStation Maintenance CapabilitiesSee all our test resultsBrushroll TypeThe Dreame L40 Ultra is a great mid-range option if you aren't a pet owner and don't mind inferior hair pickup performance. It handles debris on carpet reasonably well, and enabling the Side Brush Rotates on Carpet and SideReach settings improves coverage along edges. Battery life is exceptional, the mopping system is solid, and the full-featured dock handles emptying, mop washing and drying, and water refilling automatically.
There are some limitations, though. Its brushroll doesn't provide enough agitation to effectively lift fine debris and pet hair out of carpet fibers, so you'll often need multiple passes to get a thorough clean. Even then, edges and corners tend to need extra attention. Pet hair pickup falls noticeably short of the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra. Obstacle avoidance is reasonably reliable and rarely gets stuck, but like the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra, it doesn't consistently avoid pet waste, which the Dreame X50 Ultra handles more dependably.

Best Cheap Robot Vacuum For Carpet
Debris Pickup: CarpetDebris Pickup: Pet HairObstacle HandlingUser MaintenanceStation Maintenance CapabilitiesSee all our test resultsBrushroll TypeThe eufy Auto-Empty C10 is the best option for those who want to spend as little as possible on a robot vacuum that can clean carpets, and it's a good option if you can deal with its rudimentary navigation system. While this model's suggested retail price puts it squarely in line with far more feature-rich models, it can often be found on sale in the general neighborhood of $200, a price point where it offers a good value proposition. In terms of debris pickup performance on low and high-pile carpet, the C10 delivers similar performance to the Dreame L40 Ultra. It's effective at handling large and medium-sized material, but struggles with finer debris embedded deep within carpet fibers. Unusually for a vacuum in this price range, it comes with a self-empty dock, which reduces the amount of upkeep you'll need to do yourself; the dock uses dirtbags with a large 2.15 L capacity, the same as the Dreame, which helps keep recurring costs low.
What you lose out on versus pricier models is navigational smarts: the eufy C10 has a basic sensor suite, with only a LiDAR sensor for mapping, and no real-time obstacle avoidance capability; if you don't want this vacuum to get stuck while cleaning, make sure your floors are clear of any potential hazards.
Notable Mentions
-
Wyze Robot Vacuum:
The Wyze Robot Vacuum is a cheap robot vacuum that delivers solid performance on carpeted floors, but unlike the eufy Auto-Empty C10, it can't self-empty. More importantly, it's been discontinued and is quite hard to find from most retailers.

Roborock Saros 10R:
The Roborock Saros 10R sits near the top of Roborock's current lineup. Its StarSight mapping system provides excellent navigational performance, and it outperforms the Dreame X50 Ultra on hard surfaces. However, it struggles with fine debris and pet hair on carpets.

Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra:
The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is a high-end robot vacuum that outperforms the newer Dreame X50 Ultra on carpets. That said, its hazard-avoidance system isn't as reliable, and, crucially, it's been discontinued by its manufacturer.
