Humidifier Efficiency

The Vornado EVDC300 is an evaporative humidifier intended for use in large rooms. Its main selling point is its energy-efficient DC fan motor, which draws less power than other humidifiers with comparable coverage. It has a 3.8L tank and an advertised coverage of 750 ft².

Our Verdict

6.8 Home

The Vornado EVDC300 is okay for general home use. Its capacity is sufficient for large rooms, and it consumes very little energy, so it won't impact your energy bill too much. It can be a bit of a nuisance to clean, but it's also far from the worst offender on the market, with most of its components being pretty easy to access. Unfortunately, it is quite noisy, so it can be somewhat annoying if you have it set up in a bedroom while trying to get some sleep or in a living room while watching TV.

Pros
  • Long runtime.

  • Excellent overall efficiency.

  • Decent humidification capacity.

Cons
  • Noisy operation, even at low fan speeds.

  • Can be a minor nuisance to clean.

5.7 Bedroom

The Vornado EVDC300 is sub-par for use in bedrooms. It's fairly compact for a whole-room unit, but unfortunately, it's pretty loud at its highest humidification setting, to the point where it might keep you up if you leave it running overnight. On the upside, it has a pretty long runtime, thanks to a fairly large water tank. Its built-in humidistat also allows for set-it-and-forget-it operation.

Pros
  • Long runtime.

  • Excellent overall efficiency.

Cons
  • Noisy operation, even at low fan speeds.

  • Can be a minor nuisance to clean.

6.0 Cleaning

The Vornado EVDC300 is fairly simple to clean. Few parts need to be cleaned, and accessing them is generally fairly easy. Unfortunately, bigger components like the tank and base aren't dishwasher-safe and do need to be cleaned by hand.

Pros
Cons
  • Can be a minor nuisance to clean.

7.7 Capacity

The Vornado EVDC300 has good overall capacity. It's well-suited for use in large and medium-sized rooms.

Pros
  • Decent humidification capacity.

Cons
9.0 Humidifier Efficiency

The Vornado EVDC300 has excellent overall efficiency. Even among cool misting evaporative units, its power draw is impressively low, especially relative to the amount of moisture it outputs.

Pros
  • Excellent overall efficiency.

Cons
  • 6.8 Home
  • 5.7 Bedroom

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Vornado EVDC300 is only available in a single color variant: 'White.' For those interested, here's the label.

Let us know in the comments if you come across another variant of this humidifier.

Compared To Other Humidifiers

The Vornado EVDC300 is a mid-range evaporative humidifier. Its main selling point is its energy-efficient brushless DC fan motor, resulting in a much lower power draw than other evaporative humidifiers like the Vornado EV200 while offering comparable humidification capacity. Unfortunately, it's rather tedious to clean.

The Vornado EVDC300 is reasonably simple to clean. Only five parts need to be cleaned periodically, not including the wick, which needs replacing every four to eight weeks. All of them are pretty easy to access, except the exhaust fan grille, which requires you to remove a retaining screw first. The tank and base aren't dishwasher-safe and need to be cleaned by hand, but on the upside, there aren't any difficult-to-reach crevices or corners within the base plate itself.

This unit's brushless DC (BLDC) fan motor makes it noticeably more efficient than the majority of other evaporative models on the market, including other Vornado models like the Vornado EV200 or the Vornado EV100. Compared to a shaded pole motor, more energy from the coils in a BLDC motor actually goes towards spinning the rotor inside.

This humidifier's overall efficiency is excellent. It's a great option for hot and dry climates, where the cooling effect of its mist can decrease ambient temperature. However, using the EVDC300 in cold and dry months can force your heating system to work harder to maintain a comfortable, stable temperature, increasing your energy bill.

  1. Update: We’ve retested the printer and changed the ‘Color Ink Needed For Black & White’ in the Black & White Documents section from ‘No’ to ‘Yes.’ This change doesn’t affect the score.

Please be aware with the printing COST! I have thrown my HP 9010Pro printer after 1 yr, a similar model. The functionality & quality are good and sell at a bargain price to lure you on the Printing Cost. In the comment you should specify the cartridge model for each printer, for HP, the price can double depending on your printer. And the price will change for sure. The Full 4-color cartridge will cost 24 per color. And after single color runs out, you cannot print anything, not even black & white. Also, the high yield & normal cartridges only have a 1-year shelf life. It means it will also expire if you buy a high-yield one but do not use it. Also, just comparing the 4 color combo with the 2 package of 4 color combo, you will find that HP’s actual manufacture cost for the cartridge is pretty low and discriminates home users to pay much more per page. Again, home users cannot buy large volumes and shelf them, because the poor cartridge only has 1 year shelf time. This is simply bad practice of business, and for that reason, I will never buy ANY HP Product!

    Hi daniel000,

I’m taking note of your experience and how the costs can balloon. We’ll keep this in mind when we look at how we can improve our printer testing. Our testing validated that you can print even if the color cartridge is empty but based on your experience I’ll flag it to our testing team to look into this again. Perhaps a recent update now makes it less consumer friendly.

I’m sorry that you had a bad experience with your 9010Pro and we’ll reflect on this and see how we could adjust our reviews to better reflect the risks and drawbacks with these printers.

Thank your for taking the time to add this information we appreciate it.

Thank you for reporting this! I’m considering replacing my (non-HP) printer. HP won’t be considered.

I have owned an HP 9015e for more than a year. There is a dirty little secret that HP should be called to task about. Some of their tech support agents will admit it, but, HP has done nothing to fix it, admit it or do something about it. There is either a software conflict with the HP scanning software and/or a hardware communications protocol bug that causes it to stop scanning frequently whenever Windows 10 or Windows 11 sends a Windows update, especially when you try to send a scan from the printer back to the computer, remotely. The printer works fine and maintains communication with the computers, but the scanning feature stops working and has to be re-installed, over and over. In about 2-years, HP has not replaced this software or updated it which leads me to think it is a flaw in the hardware. But, they need to address it or there should be a class action recall. You’ll find snippets about it in the HP community and around the internet with tags like, Printer stopped scanning or ADF won’t scan, etc. It’s obviously not a unique problem. But, HP needs to be called to task about it.!
