The Midea MAD50PS1WS is a 50-pint dehumidifier intended for use in larger rooms. It has a different design to most of Midea's lineup of collapsible dehumidifier units, with a more conventional upright configuration. That said, in terms of features, it's otherwise pretty similar. It's Wi-Fi enabled, so you can control it remotely using the MSmartHome app on iOS or Android devices or with voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. It also has a built-in pump and comes with a drain hose, so you can set it up to drain continuously in an elevated container.

Our Verdict

8.5 Basement

The Midea MAD50PS1WS is an excellent option for use in basements. It has a very high dehumidification capacity, features a built-in drain pump, and comes with a hose, so you can easily have it drain continuously into a sink or any other elevated container. However, even in its lowest fan speed setting, it generates pretty high airflow; this can be beneficial for especially large dens, but it could also result in higher evaporator coil temperatures, which could harm moisture removal performance, especially in cooler rooms.

Pros
  • Excellent dehumidification capacity.
  • Can be configured to drain continuously.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Has a drain pump.
Cons
  • Range of airflow is limited.
7.5 Bathroom

The Midea MAD50PS1WS is a good choice for bathrooms. It's quite bulky, which makes it a bit of a nuisance to fit in smaller bedrooms, but it does offer excellent overall dehumidification capacity. While its water tank isn't especially large for a 50-pint unit, it can be configured for continuous drainage and comes with a drain hose. It also features a drain pump, so you can have it drain into a sink, shower, or bathtub.

Pros
  • Excellent dehumidification capacity.
  • Can be configured to drain continuously.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Has a drain pump.
Cons
  • Generates a lot of heat.
7.9 Large Room

The Midea MAD50PS1WS is a very good option for large rooms. It provides sufficient airflow to generate a lot of air movement, even in open-concept rooms, and it has an excellent dehumidification capacity. However, its water tank is smaller than some other 50-pint units, and its operating noise is somewhat noticeable, though it's still nowhere near the noisiest appliance on the market. It's Wi-Fi enabled, too, so you can have it run while you're out and about running errands.

Pros
  • Excellent dehumidification capacity.
  • High max airflow.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity.
Cons
  • Water tank is a little smaller than some peers.
  • Somewhat noisy.
6.3 Bedroom

The Midea MAD50PS1WS is a mediocre option for bedrooms. It's quite bulky and generates a lot of heat, making some smaller rooms feel rather stuffy if you leave it running for a while. That said, it offers excellent overall dehumidification capacity and is impressively energy-efficient, so it won't have too big an impact on your energy bill.

Pros
  • Excellent dehumidification capacity.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity.
Cons
  • Generates a lot of heat.
  • Water tank is a little smaller than some peers.
  • Somewhat noisy.
8.5 Capacity

The Midea MAD50PS1WS provides amazing dehumidification capacity. It provides sufficient dehumidification capacity to dehumidify large-sized rooms.

Pros
  • Excellent dehumidification capacity.
Cons
6.2 Noise

The Midea MAD50PS1WS is fairly loud. It isn't going to overwhelm nearby conversation spoken at a low volume, but it'll be pretty noticeable if you have it running next to a TV.

Pros
Cons
  • Somewhat noisy.
5.3 Temperature Stability

The Midea MAD50PS1WS generates a lot of heat. It isn't a great option if you leave your dehumidifier nearby, especially in smaller rooms where the ambient temperature is already high.

Pros
Cons
  • Generates a lot of heat.
  • 8.5 Basement
  • 7.5 Bathroom
  • 7.9 Large Room
  • 6.3 Bedroom

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Midea MAD50PS1WS is only available in a 'White' colorway. You can see the label of the unit we tested here.

Let us know in the comments if you come across another variant of this dehumidifier.

Compared To Other Dehumidifiers

The Midea MAD50PS1WS is a 50-pint smart dehumidifier with Wi-Fi connectivity. It has a much sleeker appearance than the similarly performing Midea MAD50PS1QWT and operates more quietly. However, its more conventional design has downsides compared to the latter's collapsible configuration. The MAD50PS1QWT has a much larger water tank that won't need emptying as often, and its nested design allows you to remove the water bucket and have the unit dump any accumulated water directly into a drain or sink, a configuration that's great for more confined spaces.

This dehumidifier has decent airflow performance. At its highest fan speed, it provides plentiful airflow, which is crucial for generating air movement in large, open spaces. However, airflow doesn't drop much at its lowest fan speed, and it can be too high to effectively cool the unit's evaporator coils, which can have a negative impact in cooler, humid environments.
