Best Dehumidifiers For Bedrooms

If you're suffering from overly high humidity levels in your bedroom, it's worth investing in a dehumidifier. There are a few things to consider when buying a portable bedroom unit. Quiet operation is a must since, in some cases, you'll likely need to run the unit overnight. You'll also want to consider something that doesn't put out too much heat, as that can make your bedroom hot and stuffy. Quite a few models on the market also offer 24-hour timers and real-time fan speed adjustment systems, so you won't have to fiddle with its settings in the middle of the night.

We've tested 20 portable dehumidifiers, and below are our recommendations for the best ones for bedroom use among those we've tested based on their dehumidification performance, price, and feature sets. If you're looking for another set of product recommendations, you can see our picks for the best dehumidifiers and the best dehumidifiers for basements.

  1. Best Dehumidifier For Bedrooms

The Waykar PD160B is the best bedroom dehumidifier we've tested and an ideal option for most room sizes. This unit's 8.5-pint capacity certainly isn't enormous and will likely be insufficient for removing moisture from exceptionally large, open-concept rooms. That said, the Waykar is a better option for smaller bedrooms that don't require a larger full-size unit. It has a discreet footprint, and its operating noise will easily fade into the background of most homes or apartments. It also generates very little heat, so you can have it positioned near your bed without feeling a constant flow of warm, dry air against your face. Its display is rather dim: this can be a nuisance when trying to operate the machine, but the upside is that it doesn't emit a harsh light that'll disturb your sleep.

You can set your desired humidity level and have the unit adjust its fan speed setting as needed, so there's no real need to babysit the machine while it runs. Although there's no built-in pump to drain the water into an elevated receptacle, it has a hose for continuous drainage.

  2. Best Dehumidifier For Large Bedrooms

On the other hand, if you have an especially large room, the Frigidaire FFAP5034W1 is a good option. It's bigger, heavier, and louder than the Waykar PD160B, making it a hassle to set up in smaller spaces. It puts out much more heat to boot, and some rooms can start to feel pretty stuffy if you leave it running often enough. However, if you have a large bedroom that requires heavy-duty dehumidification, this unit's 50-pint capacity and large water bucket make it a very good option. Its built-in drain pump lets you drain it into an especially faraway container vessel or sink.

At 560 watts, this unit consumes far more energy than the other picks on this list, but its considerably higher dehumidification capacity makes it just as efficient in terms of performance per watt.

  3. Best Dehumidifier For Bedroom Closets

If you only need a dehumidifier to deal with small amounts of moisture inside an enclosed space, like your bedroom closet, consider the ProBreeze PB-03. It's approximately one-sixth the weight of the already pretty portable Waykar PD160B, so you can easily squeeze it onto a shelf in your closet or any other tight space. It also generates very little heat, so you won't notice any real impact on the temperature of your room, even if you leave it running all the time.

It also doesn't offer anywhere near the dehumidification capacity of a full-size machine or even a more compact unit like the Waykar dehumidifier. As a result, it'll do a terrible job of dealing with high levels of moisture, even within modestly sized rooms. The ProBreeze also has a tiny water tank, though since its dehumidification rate is so low, it takes quite a while to fill up. It draws only 37W of power, which is great if you plan on having it run overnight often, but its poor capacity means it isn't an energy-efficient option either.

Notable Mentions

  • Midea MAD50PS1QWT: The Midea MAD50PS1QWT is a good 50-pint alternative to the Frigidaire FFAP5034W1 and occupies less space when not in use. However, it's noisier and produces even more heat. See our review
  • AGLucky OL12D-D023B: The AGLucky OL12D-D023B is a 9-pint dehumidifier that performs similarly to Waykar PD160B while making less noise. That said, its overall availability is also far more sporadic. See our review
